I want a rear camera on my F25

Where can I get a rear camera for my F25 that would integrate with my factory nav system? I called a couple places and they either don't have one for that model, or just didn't give me a confident feeling it would integrate properly.

I believe the Nav package includes the camera features. Check your settings or go to the dealer for assistance. The IDrive does get confusing and you might have the feature turned off.

I have the nav in my 2011 X3 but no back up camera. I inquired about getting the camera added but was told it can't be done. Remember that the camera is also integrated with the sensors in the rear bumper that inform you that you are about to hit something. Not as simple as I thought it would be and I inquired with two BMW dealerships.

The tech package includes a rear view with top down view, if you didn't get the tech package, option 3AG is the regular rear view camera. Do you have your build sheet which lists what options you have? If you don't have it, you should be able to buy the parts and code it the vehicle for it.

The camera for the tailgate is 66539240351
The control modules part number varies depending on your build date. I'd imagine it would already be wired for it, but you'd have to check that to see.

If you don't have park distance either, you can retrofit that as well, since the camera requires it.

My guess is there will be an additional cost to get it coded. That extra $700 to add the camera when ordering doesn't look to bad now.

I have top view on mine and it is one of my favorite features. I love it when parallel parking to make sure I don't get road rash on my rims.

slightly off topic, the rear view mirror (auto dim) and heated side mirrors- can it be retrofitted?
I did not order the premium package, these things should be standard....

I sent an email to Bimmertech (http://www.bimmer-tech.net/shop/bmw-...sist-retrofits) and asked about their camera retrofit. This is their response:

"Our rear view camera retrofit is 100% OEM solution so it will work exactly the same as factory installed.
We don't provide installation instructions before the purchase but I can tell you that you will have to fit the new trunk handle with the camera in the tailgate, run the wiring from the camera to the camera module in the trunk and then the wiring from the camera module to the Navigation head unit. "

I don't mind opening up the tailgate, but I would hate to run a wire all the way to the navigation unit in the dash.

It would be okay if ya only had to connect the camera module to the combox in the boot. I'm not keen on pulling wires through the car and connecting to the head unit.

im also intressed to install the original oem rear camera with ecu. have someone the retrofit installation document from bmw for my f25?

According to this, BMW offers a rear view camera retrofit kit and they say it takes 6 hrs to install.

No pricing info provided.

But when I called a few BMW dealers in the USA, no one had info on the kit.

The best I can figure is the BMW website link is BMW's international website. It may be that the retrofit kit is only available in Europe. I've seen this happen before.

Any suggestions??????

1) Trade yours in for a new one with camera (easier ).
2) Find a BMW Tech (or independent BMW expert) to install the kit, assuming you can purchase it and it can be coded correctly, etc.
3) Try as a DIY project and be a pioneer and document it for others.

Wouldn't mind a DIY as long as the instructions come directly from BMW. Just can't find a dealer who knows anything about the kit. I tried one dealer in California, Atlanta and two in Connecticut.....

I believe there was a retro fit kit for the 2.0L diesel in the European market.

this is correct. we have the retrofit rear camera. It has the Number 66212183723 and the ecu 66539249462, the EBA 2209048

Interesting. So in Switzerland, you can order it, but in the USA, I cannot. Doesn't make business sense to me.

For whatever reasons, it's not uncommon to have different options and upgrade kits available depending on geography. btw, this is not at all unique to BMW.

maybe, we can not so good drive as you, that we need the camera
