I've replaced the broken driver door handle on my 2001 E39. but that's not the fix. I took the door apart, tugged on the cable and the door still opened. When I reconnected the door handle - even screwing it place, the new handle won't open the door.
Is it safe to say the cable should be replaced? Last edited by YourOPeein; 01-18-2013 at 01:58 PM. Reason: I answered my own questions |

Is it the interior or exterior handle. By screw I am assuming you mean interior. Are you sure the cable is seated in the handle and hooked?

I'm having the same problem.
Broken handle has been replaced, but the door will not open with the new handle. The cable has been attached just fine. I guess it's been pulled too far? How do I fix the problem so that it will function as it should?

It's not enough to hook up the cable, the outer cable housing has to sit in it's place on the handle too.

when you say 'outer cable housing' can you be more specific?
I attached the hook at the end of the cable to the metal piece that it turned by the door handle. As far as I can tell, all is back as was intended. Is the outer cable housing something different that I'm not addressing here? Would that cause the issue of too much slack from the cable?

Ok, I will try to explain, I don't know the exact words.
The bowden cable consist of an inner wire and an outer pipe-like covering. The hook is attached to the inner cable and the end of the outer covering goes into a half pipe on the frame of the handle. You should be able to open the door without mounting back the handle into the panel if the bowden cable is attached correctly. Sent from my ADR6350 using Bimmer App |

I thought I seated the coated portion of the cable into the channel of the door handle; I better have another look. Thanks!!
