2010 335i Sedan performance question

Hello, I had the priviledge to drive my friends 335i the other night, he has the automatic with the sports shift. I used the sports shift during my drive.

The one thing I noticed was that while in 6th gear and driving at 70 mph, the car would accelerate without the need to downshift to 5th gear. I also noticed the RPMs sit at around 2200-2300 while cruising at 70 in 6th gear. Is that normal for these engines?

I ask because my Camaro is the V6 LLT, and when I am in 6th gear doing 70 mph my RPMs sit at 2000 RPMs nearly the entire time, and I end up downshifting to 5th to gain a decent acceleration.

My buddy's car is stock so I expect a 300hp and 300 lb/tq from his car at the crank. Mine is pretty modified so after doing some math, I am pushing around 350hp and 290 lbs/tq at the crank.

Another difference I saw is that the Bimmer EPA is 17/26 while mine is 18/30.

My theory is that the Bimmer engine normally sits at 2200-2300 RPMs and hence the power is available all the time but the EPA is lower than the Camaro.

I am fact finding thats all, I love my car but I am car junkie, so I am really curious as to see why a car comparatively powered less on paper has better acceleration than my car.

The 2 engines have very different torque curves and it is the torque you feel. The BMW makes 300 lb-ft from just off idle up to near 6000 rpm while yours might be 200 lb-ft at the highway rpm.

The torque is the main factor, however, additionally BMW is notorious for underating this engines HP. Do some searching and you will find lots of evidence of stock 335i rating much higher than 300hp. Presumably that is also true of underrating the torque.
