"features" not carried over from E60.

I realize this is probably a topic for 2011 but with the LCI out for a few months, I thought it was interesting to note a few missing features from the F10 that the E60 and earlier 5-series had. A few are obvious and a few less so.
  • Spare tire
  • Wiper arm that articulates to get more window coverage on the PS (Thought this might be because the F10 had reversed wipers for RHD cars but it didn't appear so when I traveled to IE. Perhaps one of our forum members in a Common Wealth country (or IE) and comment)
  • Cell phone cubby (arm rest) ventilation hole that acts as an A/C pass through to cool the phone
  • WB (NOAA Weather Band) radio (had this going back to my E28)
  • Ability to switch alarm acknowledgment (example: chirp for lock confirmation but not for unlock while lights flash)
  • Glove box flash light (also going back to the E28)

Anything else that I'm missing?

Yeah, some issues, some changes.

1. RFTs - Not saying they are better, but it is what it is. Allegedly saves weight?
2. No idea
3. I thought that was to "cool" a bottle of water, either way, was a gimmick in the first place.
4. I think this can be coded, but why it's not on by default, you got me.
5. No idea
6. Very disappointing, I know they switched to the LED non-rechargeable one in '07 I think, but still, was a nice touch, I've kept all mine when selling though.

wasn't the the seat heating on the E60 adjustable so as to tailor the concentration to the upper or lower thigh/back. Don't notice this with the F10.

as far as other 'features', the sub-par cooling system from the E39 540 and the exterior design features of the E60 did not make it to the F10 - thank goodness

Item 5, alarm settings are available. You can choose yes/no for chirp and lights flashing for both lock and unlock.

My F10 has WB channel just like my E60.
I also miss the flashlight and the adjustable seat heaters.

New item: I miss the Mute button in general but especially on the steering wheel controls.

I certainly don't miss the old iDrive. But here are the little things I do miss:

1 - Ability to customize airflow volume through iDrive.
2 - Ability to customize alarm chirps (OP mentioned this).
3 - Cruise control on stalk
4 - Better comfort/sport seats
5 - No sport button. Throttle response and steering were always in sport mode.
6 - Fan speed controllable via rotating knob rather than swtich.
7 - Spare tire
8 - Cornering ability

You can actually do this if you go to settings-> climate -> heating distribution. Love that feature!

You can also enable WB via coding and you can choose whether to have the lock chirp via idrive.

The eccentric wiper arm was a cool feature as was the cooled center console.

Too bad they don't atleast include a spare tire well on the f10. The e60 came with runflats and had even more electronics in the trunk yet they found room for it.

That stalk control worked a lot better than the multi button-wheel thing it has now, and it seems like it would have been cheaper to build, too.

What I miss the most is the combination of cruise lever on the steering column, volume/phone controls on the left side of the steering wheel, and the strip of leather on the right side of the center console (as opposed to the left in the F10).

This combination was perfect, especially if you had active cruise. You could drive one handed at about 8 o'clock on the steering wheel and still fiddle with your speed settings, volume, answer a call, etc, and never need to engage the right hand (which would stay resting on the leather on the right side of the center console).

What I miss secondly, and I think this was solved with the LCI, is lack of side bolsters on the seat.

Thirdly, I miss the larger rear wheels on the xDrive variant. My E60 535xi with Sport package had the larger rear wheels and it made the car look more muscular from the back.

I LOVE the new cc controls and hated having a separate lever for cc. The absolute WORST is on the E Class. I have rented a couple and was putting the thing into cc while turning. No bueno.

You don't need iDrive -- simply adjust auto intensity fan control -- that is the fan control when in Auto mode. Isn't this the same thing? There are 5 auto intensity settings while in Auto mode -- this adjusts the range of fan speeds that will be used while in Auto

Not sure why people keep saying this -- iDrive Settings -> Doors/Keys

Not with the standard HVAC -- do you have the optional 4-zone?

I have my 550xi coming with a staggered setup, you just have to specify the sport tires when ordering instead of the all seasons.

The old BMW CC stalk (how could I have missed this one!) was nothing like the MB/Buick design. It was genius and so incredibly intuitive. However, I suspect people forgot they had CC because it was out of sight but it was SO much easier to use. With one push you could enable or increase/decrease speed. Now it takes multiple steps and I still need to look at the wheel to make sure I'm hitting the right button. Although the ACC is nice.

Not sure why people keep saying this -- iDrive Settings -> Doors/Keys

iDrive Settings> Doors/Keys gives me the option for either chirp or lights but not the following:

On locking: Chirp and flash lights
On unlocking: flash lights only

Are you saying that the above scenario is available in the F10? I don't have it on my 2014 535dx. I can only have the same setting on both lock and unlock.

I don't need audio confirmation when unlocking. Just seems obvious if it's still locked while I'm walking up to the car. But it's nice if use the FOB to lock the car while I walk away (assuming I didn't use CA).

You are right, you cannot set the variables separately for lock vs unlock. You can choose any combination of chirp/lights/none in general.

BTW, did you see my other note regarding the rear perforated seats -- only with Individual interiors, such as your Amaro Brown. I have Amaro as well, but not with ventilated seats.

No just regular ...but it's under climate -> front seat heating. P. 51 in the owners manual

It isn't unless you get an M5 or ActiveHybrid I believe.

The seat heating distribution should be in setting somewhere unless they removed it with the LCI. For my Nordic skin, the seat heaters work too well and I use them for only short stints.

I will take the cruise control on the steering wheel anyday of the week, its a much better design than being on the stalk and much easier to operate.

For someone like me who do not use the CC a lot, I do not have the control memorized, I find it much easier to see the controls on the steering wheel.
