climate control on X5

I don't understand why the climate control on the driver side has 3 air flows, but the passenger side only has 2 air flows.

On the driver side, I cannot make all 3 sides light up, only two at a time.

Perhaps because the top setting on the drivers side is for the windshield, and it only has one control (i.e. it would be pointless to replicate the windshield setting on the passenger side)?
