Help a dude out
Hey everybody, so I have a 2007 750i with 38k miles on it. I live between Mexico City and Belize so it's a car I rarely drive. The wife and I decided to go to Acapulco for the weekend, 240 miles each way, got there without a glitch. About 180 miles on on our way back the car abruptly lost power and I pulled over on the shoulder. The rpms fluctuated between 400-600 and would not go up even when flooring the accelerator, all it did was sputter. After about 10 minutes I decided to turn the car off, left it for about 20 mins and restarted and took off with no problem, ran fine for about another 20 miles and did the same thing again, shut it down again for a few mins and ran fine. The rest of the way home traffic was bumper to bumper so 20mph the whole way. Any help would be appreciated

Yeah, I have an appointment at the dealership tomorrow, can't say I trust them tho, have heard many horror stories here, and besides they don't keep anything in stock for the 7's, took it in a couple months back and all they were able to do was change the oil, had to order the air and cabin filters online.

outch stealership...
sounds like the seals dried out for the cam adjusting unit since you rarley drive it the oil stays at the bottom , therefore the seals in your valvetrain dry out .. goodluck |

Thanks for the reply Alpina, I noticed that the check engine light was on before we left home and its still on, would the seals being bad trigger the check engine light and how big of a job is it to have the seals replaced?

Sounds like a clogged catalytic converter to me. Get the codes pulled.

It could also be the throttle body, I just replaced that whole assembly last month. Symptoms were very close to yours although I got the visual warning image of an engine with a diagonal slash through it and "Reduced Engine Power" under it.

before you jump the gun most european cars run like crap because of vacuum leaks
get the codes checked and proceed from there the dealer will tell you alot of things to scare you mind you that they have big overhead remember that when theyre "upselling" second opinions are awesome |

Woo saa, deep breaths count to 10. Ok so just got back from the stealer, they said that they would need to keep the car for a minimum of 2 days to check everything, and they can't just do a diagnostic and give me a printout of the codes. Any suggestions on what type of scanner or code reader I could buy so that I could get the codes on my own? Thx
