2010 550i Paddle Shifters
I have a 2010 550i M Sport with paddle shifters. The right/upshift paddle works perfectly, but the left/downshift paddle will not downshift the car. Therefore, both paddles are upshifting the car. The only way to downshift in manual mode is to use the gear shift. Is this normal? any help is appreciated. Thank you.

You know that both paddles up and down shift. You push to downshift and pull to up shift. The m-sport in 10 is not like today's - + shifters.

This is the other crazy thing BMW keeps playing with, on my 2008 paddle shifters; downshift is push and upshift is pull (logically the best to me just like airplane) doesn't matter left shifter or right. So check the manual in case 2010 has changed. I read somewhere on Roundel, BMW changed the way shifter works like left is for up-shift and right for downshift regardless push/pull.

Thank you. I've only had the car for 1 1/2 weeks, so i'm still getting to know it. I had a 2012 535 M Sport as a loaner for my X5 and the right paddle was dedicated to upshifts for the left to downshifts. I will try the push/pull method driving to work this morning.

I went through the same situation as you. "Paddle shifts broken!" I wonder how the formula 1 paddle shifts are setup?

BTW, there is also a bigger paddle behind the wheel to make up-shifts easier.
Might sound crazy but I was trying to pull-up on the thumb control for up-shifts before I found the bigger paddle :-)

Not sure about formula 1 but Ferrari's have + on one side and - on the other... personally I like the push/pull better but I have not driven a Ferrari to comment.

Thank you everyone
After driving the car to work today and using the push/pull paddle shifting method, all is well. They are a blast to use!!! Thank you all for the speedy information. Without you all, I would have been back at the dealership insisting that something was wrong with the car.

I highly recommend downloading/opening up your manual and read about your car. You will find many tips and facts about your car.
Try this, if you are listening to the radio and you have the split screen set radio left big window and nav right small window, move and hold the idrive controller to the left and it will jump directly to the nav screen. This is a short cut feature which works for all 4 directions.
