2008 535xi (turbo sound question)

I've had several turbo cars over the years and love the sound of the spooling turbo. I LOVE this car, but really want to be able to hear the turbos spool as I'm accelerating (6 speed manual). Are there any plastic silencers etc. that BMW installed to quiet them? Does anyone know of any aftermarket air filters that might help open this up a little? Thanks for the help.

I replaced my stock air box with the bms dual cone intakes and you can now hear the turbos spooling up.

Thank you sir! I just wanted to make sure it made some type of difference before I spent the money. Looks to be a pretty easy and straight forward install.

Not looking for anything huge or a project. Just something simple to be able to hear the turbo.

As booyaazaa mentioned, a dual-cone intake is what you need. I went with the CPe setup instead of BMS - they're pretty much the same and both are available on the Burger website (BMS is red and CPe is white). If you do this, a great tip would be to heat up the plastic intake pipes to soften them up, so the BMS or CPe pipes slide in easier. My 1st attempt to install was first thing in the morning on a cold engine and after an hour I still wasn't anywhere near complete. 2nd attempt was after I drove an hour home from work - 15 minutes later it was complete.

Yep it is a pretty easy install. Core22 is right about having a warm but not after driving engine to make it easier to install. Also make sure you have magnetic bits to prevent you from dropping stuff into the bay. On wot to redline you'll hear those turbos spoooooling up.

I never noticed any sound from dci but I wasn't looking to hard, first time my ears knew I had turbos was after my intercooler , then everybody's ears knew after DP's. that's just my experience ..
