If I wanted to get rid of my stock license plate bracket below


From the realoem diagram would I fill in the gap with part # 7? And would I need # 8 as well?

Bavauto is overpriced. Realoem has it for half that. The parts guy on the other bimmer forums probably for less.

#7 yes. Looks like #8 might be the chrome strip. Depends if you have shadowline trim or not.

You don't need part #8. Part #7 should be about $30.
I cut the lower part off the plate holder and re-attach the top part.

Ditto...as stated in the part database...item #8 asks {shadowline trim = no} ...so if you have chrome exterior trim running across your bumper...then you'd need #8....if you do NOT have chrome trim running across your bumper then you do NOT need #8.

You also need to chose the correct part #7 as well...there's one part nbr for shadowline trim...and another part nbr for regular (chrome-line) trim.

(gotta read the supplement text in the part database to insure ordering the correct part based on how your car is optioned)
