E38 Diamond Key remote problems

Hi Guys,

I'm new here and I'd be really glad if someone from here could help me. I've bought an E38 730d (1999 October), and received 2 keys with it. It's the newer style key (diamond key). However, both keys start the car, both of them are able to lock it (using the lock cylinder on the door), but non of them would work remotely. I've opened one and replaced the battery, tried to re-sync, nothing worked. When I lock the car using the key, the 'clown nose' indicator flashes like it should, 1 flash every 4-5 secs or so. I've also measured if the car charges the key when inserted in the ignition switch, and I can measure 5V steadily.

I tried every single method written on the internet in order to re-sync these keys, but nothing worked.

Any tips?

Thanks in advance,
Patrik

A quick question...do you have any door switch issues? If the car thinks a door is open because of a bad switch I don't think the process will work.
Do you know where the keys came from? I say this because different radio frequencies for the keys are used in different countries.

Do a search on this site for key posts by QSilver7 should solve your problem.

Hi, no, all doors are closed properly, interior lights turn off aswell, and the board doesn't say anything about open doors. The car/keys are both from Germany.

If you've followed every RF remote key instructions and there appears to be nothing wrong with either your FZV (central locking) or DWA (anti-theft alarm siren) systems...are you sure that you have the RF remote keyless entry system installed?

In Europe...the IR (infrared) keyless entry system was optional. Run your VIN through a VIN decoder (if you haven't done so already) and see if you have the 433/434 MHz system...or if you have the IR system.

This is the option code for those of us in the USA/Canada/Australia that have systems that use the 315 MHz frequency:
  • S876A Radio Frequency 315 Mhz
  • S874A RADIO FREQUENCY 434 MHZ
  • S875A INFRARED REMOTE CONTROL

This is the VIN decode site I used: http://www.bmwvin.com/
