Tail lights as DRL's

Just a FYI in case some of you guys don't know but you can have your car coded so that we can run our beautiful taillights as DRL's.

My previous 09 335 had this and I always thought my F10 did as well until recently i was shocked that they weren't on unless the headlights were. Its a simple 5min job through coding and now my rear light bars are on once the car is started. The tailights are one of the most distinctive features of the F10 and I much rather them on than off.

Alan

In my car they're always on, unless I deactivate the DRL's on the CIC. Maybe is a 2011 build thing.

Possible. I heard that some European regulation changed this sometime in 2011 so that is probably why my 2013's tails are only on when the headlight are.

Same here. It is a 2011 F10 thing. Finally, a + for MY11!

I don't see it on the F10 coding cheat sheet.

This one?

Wow that is odd as hell thanks for the tip Alan. I will add that to my list of coding I want done when I get the car.

Interesting. Don't think I've noticed any F10's with them on as DRL.

They are indeed the classiest and most stunning display of taillight RL's out there I think.

All MY11s are on from the factory. I thought I have read a few 2012s having them on as DRLs as well.

With them being neon tube lights, they are really not visible in daylight. In fact, they are not visible even in dusk. At night, they still catch me by surprise with that very even warm glow. It has a look of class and luxury.

Many manufacturers have followed suit; however, none pull them off as well as BMW.

I didn't do the actual coding but i watched my friend do it and the code looks familiar.

Very happy with this "mod" for my 2013. Especially since i had my tails lightly smoked so now with them on you see a bigger contrast between the light bars.

After you code the tail lights.... If you go into the vehicle settings and un check Daytime Driving lights does the tail lights turn off as well?

Yes. My '12 does not have the rear DRLs, so I had it coded on. When I turn off the DRLs in the iDrive it also turns off the rear ones.
