What is this Yellow Light about?

Just picked up my car on Saturday morning and noticed this yellow light the next day.
Any idea what this is about?

Blurry, but looks like the check engine light.

If it comes on briefly at startup, no worries. If it remains on, get to your BMW dealer.

Do you have BMW Assist? If so, push the missile launch button above your head and ask them.

It hasn't happened to me, so I can't be of much use. The light indicates a myriad of things, I believe, only your dealer can see what code its throwing off.

I never noticed it until my wife pointed that to me

The Check Engine/Service Engine Soon light always indicates some emissions related issue. It is virtually never a condition that will cause harm to the motor.

Is the gas cap on securely? A missing or loose gas cap is the most common cause of the Check Engine Light, because it causes the fuel system not to have the correct vacuum in the system. That adversely affects the performance of the emissions controls. Besides the loose gas cap there are a few dozen or hundred other reasons that can trigger the CEL.

The CEL will go out on its own after several engine running cycles and miles of driving if the condition clears itself. If the gas cap caused the light and the situation is corrected it will go off after 5 or 6 driving cycles of sufficient mileage.

I just made a 350 mile trip. It was really cold when I left and my transmission had a little hiccup with a delayed gear change right as I started driving. The CEL came on. I was almost certain the delayed gear change caused it and there were no other symptoms at all. The light stayed on most of the trip, but at my last stop along the way to get something to drink when I restarted the car the light did not come on. It has not come on again since.

I checked the gas cap, it is perfectly fine. I think it is something else. I have given a call to my dealer and he said he will get back to me.

No, it's just that a CEL symbol is kinda universal, with a light shaped like an engine or 'Check Engine' words come on. I would have noticed that the light didn't turn off the first minute I'm driving the car, regardless of brand. Just sayin'

I believe that the BMW Assist tech's can "see" the codes your car is throwing off from way up there in outer space. So push the rocket launcher and see what they say.

op: does the light go out when you actually start the engine? in the pic, you have the ignition turned on, but the engine not running

I will go home at 6ish and then do that. But my dealer told me that he will pick up the car tomorrow and get it fixed.

This is an engine check light and will not go until you turn on the engine, from pic you have ignition ready but engine not running, if still stays on then as mention byBoltjaM3s contact your dealer, what did he say? i am sure you know by now as so many people have mentioned, it would be interesting to know why you have check light on new car?

You are correct.
I took it to my dealer and he did all the tests and then told me that since the engine is off the car is in "Accessory" mode, so you will see that light.
once I turn on the engine, the light goes off

I think every car I've ever owned that was OBD1 or newer did that. What did you own before your F30?
