Couple of ?s

We have an 09 X5 that we purchased in November and I'm always trying to learn more on it either through the manuals or in this forum. Two things, first-the heated steering wheel is shutting off after a few seconds; would this be an indicator that the battery is going south or some other known problem. Second-I've looked in the manuals and searched for a description of the various symbols displayed on the dash; but I'm either overlooking them or they're not readily available. Any help would be appreciated.

If you have warranty, take the car in into the dealer regarding the heated steering wheel.

Because thats not how its supposed to function.

Most likely.

IMO, once the car is running the battery will be totally unrtelated to the heated wheel turning off....

Well then, why dont you help him out? You can go to BMWUSA, download the manual and give him the page numbers.

My recollecion is that while there is a drawing showing the overall dash and some indictaors, the details on some specific indictors are scattered under different systems/features....

Actually if the car senses an undercharged battery, it accelerates the charging cycle, which includes constant charging vs. only during deceleration, and switching off/reducing auxiliary functions like heaters, A/C, etc.
