1997 328i clock setting

I am having trouble setting the time on my clock. I saw some old postings on this, but no solutions. I have the 18 button OBC. I push the clock button, "input time" shows. I have tried hitting and releasing the clock button, pushing and holding the clock button and nothing will allow me to change the time when using the 1,10,100.1000 buttons. Will the display show the time changes as they are made or will it just show at the end of the proramming process? All other functions on the OBC work properly, am I missing a step here? One poster from '07 asked if the OBC was defective, but I did not see a reply. Could this be the problem? I had not displayed the time before since I just recently bought the car. The battery was disconnected for a repair and the problem may have shown up afterwards. Thanks for any input.
