Ignition on, ANTI and Battery light on

Aloha,

Just started my car, rear light light came on, changed bulb, and went to start my car again to drive home and no dice. When I turn the ignition on, only the ANTI light and battery light illuminate. All accessories work just like normal, radio, power windows, headlights, etc. Maybe bad battery, but it started perfect about 15 min before it wouldn't start. Any help is appreciated. Mahalo.

first would be check the alternator. start the engine and check the voltage at the battery. under 12.4, bad alternator, over 14.8, bad voltage regulator.

I would definitely have the battery tested. It could have enough juice to power low amp circuits like the radio and headlights, but the starter draws hundreds of amps when it cranks the motor. Your battery might not have the guts anymore to put out that much. Also, make sure the terminals are snug and have a good connection to the posts.

If you turn the ignition and hear the starter click one time every time you try to start the car, the starter could be on its way out. Have someone hit it with a hammer while you crank If this is the case.

Thanks for the reply downhiller. Car won't start though.

Dromey, I got no clicks or anything when I try to start it. I did hear an electrical buzz sound from near the intake manifold when I left the ignition in the on position and was poking around under the hood. Battery connections are solid, working on getting the battery checked now. I couldn't get it started with a jump last night, but AAA is on the way now. Thanks again for the replies.

The electrical buzz is the idle air control unit attached to the intake boot. It's normal. The next thing I would do would be to check all the fuses.

Does the engine turnover but not catch and run, or nothing? If nothing: Get some one to turn the key while you have a volt meter (or globe) on the small solenoid terminal. If it lights - Bad starter if no light - Bad switch.

Thanks again for all the replies. Dromey hit the nail on the head with his last post... 'Twas the number 10 fuse... Automotive lesson learned, check fuses, replace, then start worrying about how to change the starter if necessary. If you don't check the fuses, you may end up staying the night at work one night, and asking for rides from your roommates for 3 days... Mahalos.
