I'm looking to hard wire my radar in a 2012 X3, but cannot find a wire in the headliner that I can tap 12 volts which turns off when the car is off.
Somebody here must have done this...advise on which wire to use, please so I don't have to run all the way to the fuse box. Pics if you got them. THANKS.
Looks like someone beat me to it; I suggest that you find switched power to the Homelink remote control transmitter in the rear-view mirror, which appears to be the only thing (well, maybe the Moon roof, too) up there that is switched. A bundlle from the mirror should be available and easy to get at up there.
That is just what I needed. A fresh pair of eyes. I had read the long post extensively, but somehow missed that the wires tapped were to the mirror run. I kept poking at all the ones to the sunroof and light assembly. Wasted an hour yesterday!
Now that I realized what group of wires, it went in quickly. For those of you looking to remove the light and switch assembly, it is very easy. You need to pry down from the BACK part (closest to the windshield) to get it started and the it pops out with a bit of a tug on the side clips. DO NOT start pulling down from the end pointing to the back of the car or you could risk breaking this.
