Multiple misfire 2005 X5 4.4

I have owned my X5 for more than 5 years and in all that time I've had this problem with a multiple misfire code. It doesn't happen all the time and could be 4 or 5 five months before it happens again. When it does happen it's almost always in the morning at first start. It is more likely to happen when its not being driven often and its a cool day.
This is what happens. I turn the key it fires and runs extremely rough. You can't even give it gas because your afraid you'll break a mount or something. Most of the time if you turn the key off and on it runs fine. Usually if you let it run rough it will stay running rough until you turn it off. Sometimes it will run a little rough and even out right away
It's been really cold lately and It's happening more frequently so I'm concerned about it.
The dealership has scanned it many times and all they tell me is its reporting a multiple misfire but but can't tell what it is.

If you have over 60,000 miles on the X it could be your intermediate levers. What happens is when it is misfiring the computer senses the misfires and turn off the injector(s) to prevent gasoline from entering the cylinder and exiting to the cats where unburnt gas will eventually damage the cat. By shutting down the engine and restarting you reset the computer and by that time the eccentric cam has warmed themselves enough to make up the difference in tolerance. Cost to replace the intermediate lever is about 3,000 for new parts and 20 to 30 hours worth of labor. So if the shop charges 100 to 150 per hours you are looking at 2,000 to 4,500 on top of the cost for parts.

Find yourself another dealer. This is a well known problem with the N62 V8.
