Z3 2.0 water behind seats

I discover I have wtaer under and behind my seats on both side.
I suppose water come from the water discharge holes around the rear window (perhaps a problem of join on my hardtop). These holes might have been blocked.
Is anyone can tell me where these holes are located and how to get to (I guess under the hood). Is it neccessary to remove the hood...
If anyone has a link towards a free workshop manual, I'm interested in

Do you have a soft top or a hard top?
What do you mean by "hood" in relation to a leak in a rear window?
I guess a European Z3 2.0 has a 4-cylinder M44 engine like a 318i and Z3 1.9.

I discovered the "suppose" water leak one week ago with my hardtop.
That's why I suppose the water goes under the rear join of the hardtop becaus eI never have any problem the summer with the soft top (I called "hood" but maybe it is not the good translation for soft top)
In fact I "m looking forthe workshop manual specific for Z3 in order to define where are the discharges holes for water because I imagine it's the cause of my problem ('wet carpet). I think these holes are under the soft top but where, aren't you?
There are a lot of 6-cylinder in Europe. Mine is a 6-cylinder 2.Oof 150 hp built by bmw only a year between 2000 and 2001 befor the 2.2 of 170hp

Some of the water that comes off a soft top goes down into the boot or well where the top is stored. Some water may be normal, or the soft butyl tape seal between the top and body could be bad. The soft top does have to be removed to replace that. See:

In the bottom of the well, on each side, in front of the hinge or pivot mechanism, there is a little drain hole. Each drain hole has a tube that conducts water to below the body. You can see the holes when the soft top is down. They could be plugged, or a tube is disconnected.

The hard top overlaps the cockpit opening and rests on a seal against the body, so it is not likely that the water coming off a hard top can get into the well. It is possible that the water got into the well when you were using the soft top, and you have just now noticed it while using the hard top.

The Bentley Manual at Bentley_BMW_3-Series_Service_Manual_(e36).pdf should apply to your car. You could quickly download it and look.

I'm looking for pics which show the location of the drain hole. We can't see that on the workshop manual link you sent me because it is not specific to Z3 model
I agree with you, water should not enter in the car with the join of the hardtop except if the join is bad ( maybe water happens to stagnate between wings and hardtop and enters under the join). Nevertheless I'm sure not to have water before, with soft top. So, I wonder if my rear window on hardtop is waterproof because there is always condensation over but it seems strange.
I hoped to find someone with the same problem...

There is a seal between the rear frame of the soft top, and the body of the car. When you pour water on the rear of the soft top, the water runs down to the body but does not enter the body, because of the seal. The seal is made of permanently soft and sticky butyl tape. There is a water drain on each side of the boot or well where the soft top is stored. There is description and photo in Post #2 and Post #5 here:

The drain on the right side can be seen between the soft top mechanism (top down) with a flashlight. I think you have an electric top, so the drain on the left side is not visible because the electric motor blocks the view. Hi - I'm posting a reply in French which may help to clarify a thing or two.

Entre l'ensemble du toit et la carrosserie il y a une bande en plastique qui devient très cassante. La même chose m'est arrivée, rien n'était plus étanche. Dans mon Z3 2001 on m'a installé une nouvelle «sealing frame» (le nom de la bande en question), puis on a rendu le tout étanche en y mettant de la bande adhésive butyl (très collante). Bon courage!

Ce qui est étonnant c est que je m aperçois de cela alors que j ai le hard top...
Si c le joint butyle en question c surtout avec la capote que cela aurait du m arriver le hard top ne laissant pas entrer l eau!!!

Ayant acheté ma Z3 en juin de cette année (suite à la destruction d'une MX-5 2001 lors d'un accident), une nuit en septembre un salopard muni d'un couteau m'a créé une "entrée" indésirable (longue de 45 cms) dans la toile du toit d'origine afin d'accaparer un sac qui se trouvait là-dedans. L'assurance a payé 66% du prix total ($2400, voire 1800 euros à peu près (je crois), ce qui comprenait l'achat de la toile (couche anti-sonore incluse) et son installation chez un spécialiste indépendant. Le concessionnaire BMW voulait $3600 pour la même chose. Remarquez que je n'ai pas de hard-top. La bande-pièce en plastique (sealing frame) chez moi était cassée en deux ou trois morceaux, donc le remplacement. Mon problème actuel (depuis ce matin) c'est que la poignée extérieure du côté conducteur n'ouvre plus la portière! Le jeu de la voiture d'occas.

Quant à moi, je suis américain qui ai enseigné le français pendant bien longtemps. Bien sûr nous aimons explorer la France de temps à autre. Où est chez vous?

Je suis allé aux US il y aquelque temps et était passé par Charlotte d'ailleurs
Quant à moi j'habite la banlieue Ouest de Paris. Je crains devoir remplacer cette pièce et le prix que va me demander le garage m'inquiète un peu car je ne me vois pas entreprendre les travaux tout seul. Ca a l'air un peu compliqué, non?
Ma voiture a toujousr dormi dehors et ça n'a pas du tout arrangé les choses j'imagine.
Je ais quand même essayer de regarder si ça vient bien de cette pièce car j'avais une entrée d'eau à l'avant entre le hard top et le pied A que je viens de résoudre et peut être que l'eau vient simplement d elà (je préférerai). Comme mon siège était archi trempé , l'eau derrière le siège vient peut être simplement de là mais j'en doute un peu quand même car ma moquette est mouillée des 2 côtés...à suivre

If you had a leak at the front of the hard top that soaked the driver's seat, that is probably the source of all the water on the floor. Even if the passenger seat was not also soaked, water on the passenger floor could be coming from that same front leak.
