Tow bar Removal E90

Hi

I have recently remomed the factory fitted towbar on my E90 (2006 323i) to transfer it to another car.

Problem is that the towbar warning light comes on and stays on ?

Does anybody know why this is happening?

Desperate for a solution.

Herman

Herman -- If you have the particular hitch that I think you have (or "towbar" as you guys across the ocean call it), then it was installed with a wiring harness that uses the Helbako controller. If so, then the vehicle was reprogrammed at the time the hitch was installed to enable two-way communications between the hitch's wiring harness and the vehicle. If you have now removed the hitch's wiring harness, the vehicle is alerting because it can no longer communicate with the harness. It assumes there is something wrong since it knows you have the hitch option installed. You will need to have the vehicle reprogrammed again to remove the hitch option; then it will stop alerting.

Cheers,
Daryl

Thank you very much Daryl!

That makes perfect sense. Will take it to the agents this week to have the "hitch"reprogramed :-)

Cheers

Happy to help.

What part of South Africa? Our sister company is in Pretoria, supplying BMW with hitches for the vehicles that come out of the South African assembly plant.

Oh, this may have been obvious but... After you re-install the hitch wiring harness onto your other car, that car will need to be reprogrammed too. The trailer lights will not operate correctly until the reprogramming is done.
