won't start after changing battery

I recently went through some charging and battery issues. My car started running bad and lights were flashing, including alt. and transmission. My wife was driving it,and pulled over to park it. We went back and jumped it to drive it home and some gauges were not working and the computer warning type was completely out. I pulled the battery and had it checked. It had a bad cell, so I put in a new battery. Everything was fine until, while teaching my daughter to drive, the car would not show the brights were on and did not shift out of 1st gear. We were driving for over an hour at idle. I assumed the alternator at this point and replaced it. I then charged the battery. Everything seems to be fine except it will not start. The starting solenoid doesn't make a sound. I even tried jumping it, even though the battery was fully charged. I'm thinking it might have something to do with the battery level getting low and the anti theft program taking over disabling parts of the functions on the car. It's driving me nuts please help.

Perform the passenger visor test. When bad things happen, turn on the visor light. If all straightens out, the ignition switch may be bad.

If not, you'll need to have the antitheft system diagnosed.

Also check all your battery cable connections. Sometimes the grounding cable is not tight to the battery or the car body. That is enough to prevent it from turning over, even with a fully charged battery.

Thanks, but I just jumped the starter solenoid and the starter works. The battery is sending plenty of juice. I think it maybe the anti theft system. Can it be reset? Does it have to done by the dealer?

You may have a blown ignition fuse.
The fuse is located under the passenger fresh air filter housing.
Google for pics.

The fuses were all good. Could the computer have lost sync with the keys? I'll try to re-sync the keys.
I re prgramed the key and a code came up" trans. failsafe prog. " Can this be reset?

Search visor test. It will give you a procedure to see if ignition switch is giving you that headache.

I'm sorry but I couldn't find anything on the visor test. what is it? I got rid of the "trans failsafe prog" , all I did was disconnect battery for an hour. The car still won"t start.

Unfortunately I'll be towing it to the dealer for this problem. No European car places near me.

Thanks, I tried it and everything seems ok. My car doesn't start though and the one post said with the engine running do the visor test. I think I'll pull the switch to have a look at it. I know I'm not getting any volts to the starter, so it's either that, the neutral switch, or the EWS.

Turn the car (ignition) on and then open and close the passenger visor. If seemingly unrelated electrical issues appear and disappear, it is your ignition switch. See this.

The TPF is often triggered by a bad alternator (among several causes). Since you replaced yours recently, verify that it is working properly.

I've done the visor test and it is working fine. I took the switch out and and did continuity test and measured no resistance across the terminals. I can't check the alternator output without the car running. Thanks for the help though. The dealer picked it up this morning. Really got me puzzled on this one. I'll post with the results. Thanks again.

Dealer says: "Transmission range switch" so far that is $750.00 plus tax and the tow.
