Center Console, operating unit replacement

I need to replace my center console operating unit. I bought the vehicle used and it seems like someone spilled something into it.

I was able to find the part:

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...77&hg=61&fg=35

I noticed it said this:

"When Pos. 1 is deleted the repair
kit for the center console control
panel must be used."

When the dealer puts in the model number it pulls up the repair kit instead:

They weren't sure why, and had no idea what "Pos 1" phrase meant. They figured the unit had to be coded and so could only be repaired. I just figured it was plug and play. Anybody able to shed some light on this?

It should be plug and play. I changed the night vision/hud etc. buttons and they were plug and play.

So I'm not really sure why they are requiring the repair kit, but I did find out that it is plug and play as well.

Additionally, I found instructions on removing the center console trim kit, the operating unit and the the repair (attached).

I'm going to try to pull of the keys and clean it first.
