How do you which year is the navigation DVD?

Hi,

Today was the first time I ejected the DVD in the navigation slot. I have a 2009 X5 So It's a CCC system. I'm surprise to find a DVD with no label on it. Maybe the previous owner Did an upgrade. My question is there a way to find out which year is the navigation DVD?

The previous owner's "upgrade" was obviously not a legal one. They can be found on torrent downloads.

As far as determining what version it it, pop in a PC/Mac. Check out file cdrom.toc. It'll have the year in it. For example, you can see this is the 2013 North America East version.

Thanks for your response.

In that case, there's nothing much I can do since I'm not going to pay $200 for a disc, especially this one is working fine, albeit illegal.

Would the dealer find out about this during key reads and would they raise an issue about it?

Thanks.

When you go to the dealer, they get the version of the Nav installed directly from your key fob. No, I don't think they would care; they have no reason to pop out the DVD to check. They've never bothered me...

They might try to sell you an upgrade though

Thanks Brian5.

This is what my cdrom.toc file reads:

Continental Automotive GmbH

Volume: CD_7625
Date: 8.7.2011
db: NA(2010Q3)
Area: North America
Subarea: West
Supplier: Teleatlas
Version: 505.19.073.84
Customer Version: 2012
Customer: 318766534
Customer Info: BMW

NA_West

So I guess mine is a 2012 customer version. Although the db says 2010Q3.

I assume pro means professional. I am just curious why BMW call it a professional version? Any special feature(s)?

I wish we could still do this. The HDD + new key has made it impossible to torrent.

Back in my Audi days, I would have an updated NAV DVD every year for free.

But for the current market price of~$60 for the key, and free legal downloading, it seems actually easier!

High is for E53 X5. Pro is for E70 X5 (except for newer models which have nav on hard disk).
