I'm also changing my head gasket right now and was able to release the fan nut quite easily.
For my case, I pushed a flat head screwdriver between the WP pulley and the the pulley bon the right (tensioner) and with a quick blow on the 32 mm wrench was able to release it. Don't know if you tried this.
PS. I'm now removing the ignition coils and I'm studying Bentley because it's a little vague on to remove first the coil harness. It states to remove the two bolts from injector rail and doesn't mention the coil harness
