After a year and a half... I find my X5 has this!

Crawling around under the dash... and I found a 12v power outlet! How can I own this thing since Jan of 2003 and not know it is there? I've been putting splitters on the ashtray cigarette socket the whole time.

Oh, it's under the passenger side glovebox...

If it makes you feel any better, I didn't know I had that, either.

Wait until my husband gets home - we are constantly playing my BMW is better than yours - I am sooo going to win tonight's round.

When I first bought my X5, the dealer never told me that in order to fill er up with petrol, all the car doors have to be unlocked.

There I was, standing at the petrol station completely baffled as to how I was going to put my first tank full in when the filler flap was locked! I searched the footwell (for a release lever), I searched the seat/dash etc, I searched the Owners manual, I caused a long line up at the pump, I searched some more and pushed the cover in every way conceivable way, I swore, and drove home and called BMW Assist........

I guess it is a safety device in case of fire, but it just goes to show that you learn something new every day with these things.

All you need is the socket, which you can get from the dealer. Remove the blank plug, and plug it in ti the wiring harness. 3.0i's do not come with the flashlight & socket, 4.4's, 4.6's, and 4.8's do come with them. Socket costs about $12.00
