540i/6 - Performance clutch - where?
Hi y'all!
The clutch in my 540i/6 is threatening to give up life after a mere 195k miles, mainly due to my driving style. Seems like 2nd and 3rd gear drifting is too much for the clutch, together with the loooooong gears. I'm looking for a performance clutch, that'll provide a bit better grip when I'm driving enthusiastic, but won't kill my left legs muscles when driving in city traffic. Only thing is, I only seem to be able to find standard SACHS clutches on ebay. What should I do? I don't want to replace my flywheel as this will compromise drivability. Do I have any options? I live in Denmark where 540i/6's are more common than I can hear it is in the states - so maybe I'm lucky? Thanks in advance for your help! |

Spec Clutches
Excedy I have an ACT 6-Puck sprung in my nitrous Z that i race. Unfortunately i dont see any ACTs for you. I would never get an unsprung clutch for the sake of my shins. Also, nothing wrong with sachs.

Maybe drop the diff ratio a bit? I hope you don't sit at lights with your foot on the clutch and the car in gear. Very bad technique.

Well, I do - in my book, the clutch is there for that very reason, and traffic in Denmark, in the larger cities, will really drive your left leg mad, if you have to put it in neutral, just to kick down the clutch pedal and catch a gear again...
![]() I plan to use the car at DHB (Danmark Hurtigste Bil / Fastest Car in Denmark) Drift Challenge, Rookie or Semi-pro, so the clutch has to be able to deal with the strain. Lower ratio isn't an option, I love the fact that it just mumbles at a mere 3500 rpm at 115 mph....
