Samsung Galaxy S3 & '11 X5
Hey guys, I recently upgraded my phone and replaced my iPhone 4 with a Samsung Galaxy S3. I'm trying to figure out the best way to play the music through the truck with my new phone. Is there a Y cable that has a micro usb end instead of the iPhone connector? I also don't have Combox so can't bluetooth stream. Any thoughts?
Thanks |

I'm certainly not a knowledgeable one to give advice but to play music, I think, all you need is a USB cable with a micro on the other end....easily obtainable at Walmart with one of their USB cigarette lighter chargers. Plug the micro end into your phone, the USB end into the USB port in the center console and select EXTERNAL from iDrive.....as a reminder, the stereo must be on.....the USB connection does not turn it on.:

I have a S3 and '11 too. Android phones don't transmit audio through their usb ports like the iPhones do via their 30 pin ports. You can use the headphone jack to plug a male to male cord that you'll plug into the center console's aux port. Select it in via the iDrive media section - aux input. No control of the music via the car and no charging.
Truthfully, not very elegant. As an aside you can get a cheap usb flash drive for less than $10 and load it up with music. Plug that into the usb port and you'll see music on the car's screen and can control it. Much better solution IMHO... (or if you have an old iPod you could use the cable - that's what i do) Hope that helps |

I think it is just around that (11 or 12 GB). You can check for free storage in the system (don't remember how - sorry). I'm sure it is one of the options under media or menu...

Thats funny ... My Galaxy plays music through the Bluetooth..without wire as soon as I get in...But I do have a 2 yr old Ford Diesel truck...wouldn't expect BMW to be there yet ..

I think you can use the USB to your phone to control the music selection via I drive and use the headphone jack for the audio.
