M50 oil pan replancement

Hey everybody. Im working om my buddys E30. He put it into a barrier on a onramp amd cracked the pan. We have the replacememt amd I got all bolts off except for the two vertical ones inside the bellhousing. I separated the transmission from the motor a bit but cant get anything onto the bolts. Even lifted the motor a little bit off the mounts...

Any ideas?

This depends on what transmission he used, but:

there is no need to remove the transmission from the engine. on the gearbox there is an inspection cover which is basically about a third of the bottom of the bell housing. this plate comes off, there will be vertical bolts into the side of the transmission, and horizontal bolts into the pan/block of the eninge. remove this, and then you will be able to reach the bolts for the pan.

HOWEVER

some transmissions e.g. M40 transmissions do not have this inspection plate as the sump is not bolted right up and under. so when they are put onto M5x engines you cannot get to the bolts so you will have to pull the transmission off the engine

most people that do an M50 conversion on an E30 put a skid plate on for this reason, because the M50 sump hangs lower than the M20 one does.
