1998 bmw 750iL V12 for $2700, worth it?
Hi,
I have a 2003 745li and Im in love with it. We are considering a car for my friend for a daily commuter and would like to get your recommendations. Here is the link to the car. Any input is much appreciated. Thank you! http://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/cto/3579713728.html From the ad: "No warning lights on dash. Very clean interior. GPS, TV, cellular phone, electric sunshade, heated everything including steering wheel, park distance system, electronic suspension, sport mode, 5-speed automatic transmission, DSC, ABS, 12 air bags. 2 ft of leg room in the back. Xenon lights. V12 engine. A/C ice cold. Has window sticker for $96,000+. New Bridgestone Turanza EL42 18" tires, new radiator, new water pump, new air boots, new OSV, new stabilizer links, new A/C compressor, drier and expansion valve. new ignition lock, new exhaust rubber hangers, new windshield, new sunroof gasket, new transmission filter and ATF. Clean title in hand. 348 000 miles. The car needs tie rod ends soon, and the torque converter might be replaced at some point. " How much would tie rod ends and torque converter cost? I can do reasonable DIY. Last edited by tatarogl; 01-29-2013 at 01:36 PM. |

Good 30ft car. Lots of imperfections up close....
If you can live with the cosmetics being rough, the tie rods are easy. Transmission is very common, it's used in the 740 & 540 as well, so parts should be easy to come by. BMW name is A5 S560 Z, it's just a just ZF 5HP30. The V12 will make it trickier to work in the engine bay and the V12 is more troublesome than the V8 for not having a huge power increase, but the extra goodies you get like the leather dash are a nice touch. The EDC could be a little troublesome as well. Sent from my LG Revolution 4G using BimmerApp

I have an 8 and have driven the 12. Loved it but could not get into it at the time. Servicing more expensive but not more frequent. If all the usual stuff is OK then go for it and bring it up to your standard over time.

Id buy it in a heartbeat as long as it has no major issues, clean it up and drive it until the wheels fell off.

re:
That car could be a $2700.00 Bucket that you just throw money in. To expensive to fix and any 7 series you buy you should spend a few hundred and have an Indie shop go through it so you know what your in for.......
