Post Driver Assist/Dynamic Handling vs HK Audio/Lighting PKG

First post... Allow me to intro myself. Live in CA, first time BMW buyer, friends call me Pappy. About to buy 328i M Sport with identical options except: Car A has Driver Assist/Dynamic Handling PKGs... Car B has PDC and backup camera but no Driver Assist PKG. But Car B has HK audio and the Lighting PKG that Car A lacks. Very hard choice, each has merits! Thoughts?

Welcome aboard!

Coming from someone that ordered all those options, I'd say it's a pretty easy choice. Go with Car B.

Drivers assist package is perhaps one of the most expendable packages there is, plus you're getting the 2 best features of that package anyway: PDC and rear view camera.
Most people on this forum elect PDC and rear camera as stand-alone options rather than electing the driver assist package.

As far as DHP is concerned, I ordered that, but again, if I had a budget constraint, this would have been one of the first things I would have cut. DHP allows you to elect the feel of the suspension. You can go from a firm sport mode to a cushy comfort mode. If you get the sport line, you get a firm sport mode suspension by default. Most people on this forum that get the sport line or M Sport models perfer that over the comfort mode suspension.

In terms of Car B, the lighting package is a must have. Absolute must have. You'll regret not getting that. That comes standard on the 335 by the way...I think HK is a non-negotiable and is a must have too, but I lot of other people on this forum think differently than I when it comes to HK.

Very good to hear your opinion, Thanks! Am leaning toward Car B but when it comes to options I'm a junkie.

Without a doubt, Car B!

Car B, hands down!!! I would say it's actually an easy choice. I have confidence in your ability to drive. You do not need any driver assistance.

Agree - Car B, slam dunk. Depending on what car you're coming from, you may not even miss DHP - BMW is famous for handling on rails and unless you came from another sports sedan/car, you may not know any better anyway.

Its still bewilders me that the lighting package is not standard on ALL BMWs. Its a must have.

The reason is it's not standard on the competition, Merc C or Audi A4, either.

I'd go with car A.

When I listened to Audio in a car with HK and without, there's not much of a difference unless you're listening to high quality audio sources (CDs). The standard audio system is the premium audio system that's offered in Europe (read: It's already pretty decent).

DHP gives the car a lot more flexibility in handling than the standard suspension, which I value higher than a small bump in sound quality.

I completely agree with what everyone else has said regarding the driver assistance package.

Ah, clearly my own choices are affecting my recommendations. I've never been in a car without the lighting package since I was shopping for a 335 from the start. I'm not sure what features you lose with that.

You lose xenons, auto leveling, adaptive lighting, and I think you even lose out on the angel eye halo rings, but since i got the 335 too, I'm not sure about that last one. But you definitely lose out on xenons, auto leveling, and adaptive at a minimum.

krash, you are correct, the "Cat Eyes" (halo rings) are part of the lighting package on the 328i, a $900 option, ($820 invoice). Chose car B.

The lighting package seems kind of necessary.

Car B - the only two options that were not optional for me was the light package and the HK upgrade.

Very helpful feedback, folks, thanks for all your input. Am leaning toward Car B but have a question. Could the dealer retrofit Car A with the HK audio and Lighting PKG? Thanks in advance.

You could always do what a lot of us do. Order a car and have it built based on your exact specifications. You have to wait a while, but it really makes the overall experience much more special. You don't have to settle for car A or car B. You could get exactly what you want.

However, if you feel you must go with one of these, car B is clearly the better choice of the 2. Like others have said, it's not even close.

You made a good choice. I have the Driver Assistance package and while the blind spot monitor is nice, I wouldn't label it as a much have. I still haven't found a use for the front bumper side cameras yet. I however did not get the lighting package and am regretting it. I also wouldn't mind the HK upgrade. Classical and instrumental music sound great on the stock system. But anything that requires a bit more bass I find it a bit lacking. Lesson learned, never rush into ordering a car just because some hurricane took out your current ride.

Car C.

Go out and find the car you want. Many many cars out there but maybe not in your city but probably close by.

Never buy a car with any missing option you think you want. You always stare at the space where the button would have been and regret it.
