Nope, not the law anywhere.

However, the amount the OP should be paid by the insurance company is the full MSRP of his car regardless of the actual price he paid.

Ok, that will be good enough in this case. Just out of curiosity, what do you mean by "should", is this your opinion or is it the requirement, and in what state?

How do you figure?

The only thing he should be paid is "actual cash value"... what amount that represents is up for debate, but it's not going to be MSRP once he drives the car off the lot. In particular, it's last year's model since a "new" car right now is a 2013.

Value will be based on what the selling prices are for similar cars in the market, but that won't be MSRP. Insurance company can search listings within a given radius of the OP (either used cars with similar mileage, or leftover 2012s) and see what the dealers would sell them the car for.

Because the car was virtually brand new. I'm not going to argue this here. Been there, done that. If you want to read more search my posts. I can assure you I'm not talking out of my butt.

I understand that, but it even though it is a 2012, It was a brand new car owned for less than a month with less than 1,000 miles on it. I was completely 100% not at fault in the collision, therefore I feel I should have the car replaced with a new one. Good luck finding a used 335i from 2012 with 1,000 miles on it...

Either way, I have my attorney representing me, and he's taking care of anything. I'm just tasked with finding a replacement which unfortunately, has proved an almost impossible task. There's are not that many 335is out there.

Hah, yeah the guy who sold me my 2012 is trying to get me to cave and give in for a 2013. Sorry, not spending an extra 10k for the exact same car from 2012....

The guy who sold me my '12 was saying the same. Unfortunately he couldn't get anywhere near what I bought my 2012 for. Nav & Sport Package: 44k. They want 50k minimum for the same in 2013.

Well good news, it all worked out. I purchased the car at a base price of 44k, and the appraiser gave me a base value on my car with 1,000 miles at 49k. Needless to say, I came out way ahead and was able to replace it with some extra money in the pocket!



While I like the color a lot more than my original white one, the color of the rims seems really out of character with the color of the car. I was thinking about getting them powder coated black, anyone have any suggestions and or pictures for doing this?

As for the wheels, I would recommend you wait a little and see if they grow on you. If not, my next recommendation is to try plastidip first. It's a cheap way to experiment with the color. If you don't like the effect, you can peel it off without having forked out the cost for powdercoating. My local paint shop quoted me $250 a wheel for powdercoating. Two cans of plastidip might set you back $45 if memory serves.

Okay, I agree. That looks better with the smoke color.

The plastidip suggestion was just a quick and cheap way to test what black would really look like. And although plastidip offers a charcoal or smoke gray color, I think you'd be happier in the end having a professional paint job done.

That's a great looking car and -- personally -- I think the darker looks better, accepting that there IS a point of diminishing returns. The gray can be too dark if you aren't careful.

Honestly, I don't like Porsche for one main reason: practicality.

I like the new Cayman S, but it's a two-seater. I would consider it as a second car, not a primary.

This is exactly why I stuck with the BMW. I actually test drove a Cayman S, and while I loved it, it's not practical as my "one and only" vehicle. There's no room for any surfboards in that thing!

The 911's are 4 seaters, but they also are about 20k more expensive than Cayman S's. So yeah, I'll stick with my BMW until I win the lottery.

Ironically my sister just purchased the 2013 911 Carrera S, my god that is a beautiful car...

Holy sh!t dude, that shop owner must have taken one look at you and said hay there's a rich sucker I can make a killing on. $250 per rim!? The local powder coat place I talked to quoted me $40-50 per rim and that included a the prep work.
