'94 525iT no alarm/no start

I had a 94' 525iT in storage for about 11 months with the battery disconnected and kept with me. I wanted to start it up again so I fully charged the battery, and when I reconnected it and tried to operate the alarm so I could crank it, it doesn't sound at all. No flashing lights, locks aren't operating via the transmitter or anything. The system is the alpine/genuine keyless entry with the 88-88-1-600-292 3-button transmitter. I already changed the battery in it and the light is working. The fuses looked good and I ran the R5/FCX Peake tool and reported no error codes. I'm currently going through everything manually, but do anyone have any suggestions on what it could be?

I have the same car and mine has been out of commission with battery out for about 7 months. I hope I do not have same problem you describe but if I do, the first thing I will check is the programming of the alarm. I have not done this in a long time and do not remember the steps but I do remember that the alarm needs to be taught to recognize the remote control signal the same way garage door openers do. There is a chip in the key fob that gives it a unique code. The brain under the rear seat needs to be taught to recognize this code. I think it may involve taking the chip out of the key fob and plugging it into a slot on the alarm controller but I really am not sure any more. I think there may be DIY on Bimmerforums E34. Anyway, my first guess would be that the alarm lost its memory and needs to be set up again.

Well the reprogramming worked - the alarm is sounding again. However, it still doesn't start. Looks like I'm going to have to test the fuel pump next. However, I don't know which relay it is in the E-Box. The orientation isn't the same as in the Bentley manual.

Have you considered bad fuel? I am having similar problem. I finally got everything finished on the engine I was installing in my touring and tried to start it last night. It turns over and tries to start but stalls out after multiple misfires. I was lazy about checking my fuel quality. There was about a quarter tank in there for at least the past 10 months. Ethanol fuel will undergo phase separation if it sits long enough and the fuel will become a two layered form of weasel piss that is not very good for internal combustion engines. I put Stabil in my fuel but a friend told me that it really only protects for about 6 months. I tried putting 5 gallons of fresh fuel in without draining the old fuel out in the hopes that the mix would work but had no success. I am sure I am getting spark and must be getting some fuel because it did fire a little. My strong suspicion is bad fuel that has separated.

When ethanol fuel separates, I think one of the layers is thicker and possibly could clog or damage the fuel pump. It has been a while since I read up on this and not sure if my memory is accurate. Anyway, you may want to pull the fuel pump and look in your tank. That is going to me my next step.

I've never even considered bad fuel. I haven't came across any sources of help where bad fuel was ever mentioned. However, my car haven't even been able to crank at all, not even for a few seconds. I've changed fuel filter during the time though. The old one looks like its been there forever.. lol. Had to break one of the clamps off because it was so rusted. I've also tried listening and feeling to see if the fuel pump is working. Still uncertain, so I'm going to jump 30 and 87 in the relay to see if it'll run by itself.

Seems you are heading down the right road. The only other ting that comes to mind is CPS.

If the CPS is a dead end go back to basics with the battery terminals, cables, earths and connections. Could be you missed something. No point in buying a parts dept to fix a bit of corrosion on a terminal.

Did you ever figure out this problem? I got mine to start but it was a problem that I doubt you have. I had swapped a used S52 engine into my touring to replace the M50. I took my time and was very methodical ... and still managed to install the idle control valve upside down. It is buried under the intake manifold and not easy to reach once the manifold is back on. Installing it wrong resulted in a constant large vacuum leak that prevented my car from starting even though it would crank well and fire some of the time. I am glad I did not have to drain my gas tank as I suggested in an earlier post. I hope you have had similar success.
