Another FSU?
I am chasing some electrical problems, and in doing so I stumbled upon a 2nd FSU that apparently is equipping our cars. It's the rear vent FSU, Item #2 in the diagram below (p/n 64118369561). I wonder if this one goes also bad, and starts drawing power like the front one?

Good question! Never seen nor ever heard of this one before.

Certainly possible. Disconnect it and observe the results.
The early cars only used the vent for A/C; the later cars had a mixing wheel on the vent, and an aux blower for the back seat.

the listing refers to cars with rear air conditioning . I do not think our cars are such, probably why we have not heard of Rear FSU problems.

I searched realoem by typing in my VIN. The rear vent on mine has the 2 dials. One for warm/cold, the other one open/closed. I think the rear temperature is set by the front HVAC panel. Having rear air conditioning means there is a rear HVAC panel? I haven't seen one in realoem. And, on the same realoem page I haven't seen that FSU as optional, but standard. And if we have that FSU, how the heck does it work?

I had posted to this thread a long time ago but it's not really about the ac or the rear FSU but has pictures of the vent (but not the FSU).

Ha, another arcane section of realoem.com I didn't want to see....
Heater & air conditioner section, under "collective function group"..... It's on my car..... online vendors have it in stock! It is priced higher than the front FSU! What would be the drawback of just unplugging this thing? |

The rear blower won't run.

Half-expected it would disable something else and launch a series of strange electrical faults.... As long as this one isn't as prone to failure like the one up front.
