F30 335i Borla Exhaust Development

Hi guys and gals,

This is Andrei from Borla. We’re excited to bring in a F30 335i to our Oxnard R&D facility so we can develop the best possible exhaust system for the BMW community!!! If you’re in the market for a performance exhaust system, what kind of sound are you looking for? What tip styles do you want to see? Any other thoughts? We will be back shortly with some pictures from R&D.

This is the reason why I made a mistake starting with MB & AMG in the late 90's. I'd never see a post / offer / query like this over on the Mercedes forums!!!

For those disappointed with the sound of the stock exhaust, now is your time to jump in and express your preferences. Instead of complaining to us, let somebody know that can actually do something about it.

Low sound, 3" diameter, thermal feature, mandrel bent high grade stainless steel mufflers and chrome tips, connects to stock catalytic converter, easy installation, straight design, about $1500 installed.

LarryboysUDM,

Thank you for your feedback! It's our belief that the factory exhaust already has a fairly low tone. What kinds of sounds would you like to hear at the various RPM's?

Through dyno testing, we use the pipe diameter that offers the best performance gains on the stock motor. Sometimes that means 3", other times not. Most vehicles don't need significantly larger exhaust piping unless they have highly modified motors with big-time power outputs. Expensive forced induction like superchargers and larger turbo setups, ECU reprograms that might void your warranty, and many hours of shop dynoing aren't for everyone. Rest assured that we do all the necessary testing to provide your BMW with the best performance and sound.

All of our systems are made out of 300 series austenitic stainless steel. For optimal durability, we choose to use one of the best grades of stainless steel available in our exhaust systems. This also allows us to offer our industry leading Million Mile Warranty. Thankfully, all of our systems are already incorporate mandrel bent pipes to achieve maximum exhaust flow.

Our intention is usually to design a direct bolt on kit, without any cutting or welding required. Specialty projects, non-street legal systems, and difficult catalytic converter locations are the rare exceptions to this guideline.

Chrome tips tend to flake away over time. We use polished stainless steel tips, which can always be brought back to their mirror image, original factory luster.

Thanks again for your comments and let us know your thoughts.

If you can, post videos of recent Borla exhaust notes. Im ok with ur chosen pipe diameter. Stick with direct bolt on kit, not affect warranty, street legal, polished stainless steel tips, etc.
Thanks for the info.

I'm in on all of this. I know there are others who will not be. So, maybe offering a few options would be good.

That sounds like a good plan, and throw on a pair of tips on each side!

By low growl, Please try to make it sound meaner at idle, and have a Nice Beastly tone at WOT.

Thanks for asking for our opinions too. That's Very Cool of a Big company like Borla!
