Aftermarket "re-programs" worth having...

In reviewing several companies that offer new electrical, or computer, reprogramming of features on the car, I was interested in which were worth the upgrade and cost.

So let me start off with DVD In-Motion, rather inexpensive, but great to have--worth it in my opinion. However, having had my GPS upgraded by BMW, it was reset. No problem, I have th disc to do it again for free.

For those services that patch into your computer, and take it over, to reprogram your car computer module, how would that work if it gets reset to factory specs? You call them back and do it again? So if you have mirrors done, would the dealer reset these when you take the car in? Sounds like an ongoing headache if they do.

Back on topic: What is worth it?

I saw where you can add internet (box needed I believe), but then you lose your Emergency Button, BMW Asssist. This looks really cool. Anyone?

Anything else, please share, but try to keep it on technology upgrades (please, no headlights--lol).

Having had both. DVD in motion then moving to BMW Live. Don't waste your money on DVD In Motion. BMW Live is light years better. I actually never watch movies in the car, but have that function. The other features that BMW live has are amazing though. Especially the google live search. Sent you a PM about this also as you requested.

Do not pay for DVDinMotion, get yourself a $20 cable and code it for free. And there's other cool features which you can code to enhance your cars features.

One thing about BMW live that I forgot to mention. You need to be able to natively tether you phone to the car with Bluetooth data transfer. If you have an iPhone you may have to pay you carrier to do this. I just jailbreak and use TetherMe and do it for free.

Rajeek, do you lose your "BMW Assist" when you did the upgrades? Something worth noting.

Correct. I never used it and have AAA for problems so I didn't care. They may be able to keep that telematics now, but you will likely need a dealer to activate it so you will have to have a very good relationship with them. Patrys can give you more info on that.

I put DVDs and it works fine. Why pay for it?
