How to change the oil when it's constantly raining?
I think the answer is to wait until it stops. Sometimes the pavement is wet but the rain stops, but this is still messy.
Any better ideas? |

Don't know where you live, but in most urban areas, you can find places that will rent you garage space to work on your car. Or, see whether you can find a friend or work acquaintance with a garage that will let you use their garage. Finally, bring all the supplies to a local garage that has a good reputation, and then watch everything they do while they change it for you.

Seattle....it can rain for 20 days straight. I think the record is slightly more than 30 days of rain.

Try living in Central America. Luckily we are in the "dry" season for a few months(lets me have time to fix the sunroof).
I have changed engines, tires, transmissions in the snow when I lived in New Jersey. Much MUCH more difficult tasks than that when serving overseas. Changing oil in the rain is relaxing & easy. If you do not want to get wet.....Poncho(heck, get wet, change your clothes afterwards..its only water), put it on jack stands, slide under with your creeper & enjoy the sound of the rain on metal. I have fallen asleep under vehicles before.

Thanks for the suggestion to the original poster. I found there is a place called Self Serve Garage in Kent, WA.

Do it in Key Arena. Not in use and won't be for a while either.
Rental garages work tho. |

If you're going to be DYI person, you need to get set up to do so. A gararge, or knowing of a place where you can rent space to work on your car for a few hours is a must.
However, for this particular issue, throw a tarp/plastic over the front of the car when you are done for the night, and in the AM, even if it starts raining, you will have a dry area under the car (if that is the issue). Jack it up, put in the jack stands, and get to work. Worst case, put on an old sirt/sweatshirt and prepare to get wet. You can always remove the shirt and take a shower afterwards if you get wet.
