Blower motor replacement help

I have a 2002 325 i. I followed the Bentley removal procedures. The problem is there was not enough room to remove the blower motor without damaging the fan blades (disaster). Turns out the motor was bad anyway when i tested it. Now i have two issues in replacing the blower with a use one i purchase.

1) the big problem is that I cannot put the blower motor back in without damaging the replacement. There is no room to put it back in at all. The manual says to pull the old one straight out. That didn't work nor could i weasel it out to the sides. What am i doing wrong? Someone told me i had to pull the engine...that's just crazy talk. Anyone have the problem in the part and have recommendations?

2) the motor i purchased has a smaller electrical wire. I can splice the old one on to give the length but i read somewhere that this replacement might have the fans reversed and the wire should come from the right instead of the left on the original when replacing.

Any help or pointers would be appreciated. I don't want to damage the fan blades installing the replacement.

My notes below. Follow the original thread. You'll see that many have gone through these challenges, but have collectively worked through them and in my opinion one of the easier things you can fix on your E46.

Thanks everyone for the pictures and directions, it helped a lot. Something to Note, on a 2002 BMW 325i the left side (facing fan housing) of the fan cover needs to be removed instead of the right. Not enough room on the right side. Once I did this it, was a breeze to insert back into the fan housing without damage.

Thanks again sannouni, cvx5832 and GoForthFast. Great place to get help.

It's probably the right side one on all of them. With cars, the right side is always the side that is to your right with you are sitting in the car. It's too confusing to switch up which is left or right based on which way you are facing at the time.
