I own a 2006 750li that I purchased as a CPO vehicle in 2009. While still covered by the CPO warranty, I repeatedly pointed out two problems I was having with the vehicle.
1. Spewing white smoke at idle (I kept having to add engine oil) - Ohio dealer (Midwestern Auto Group blew off my concerns, saying this always happens with a cold start - the problem was finally resolved after (vehicle was no longer under warranty of course) I spent about $3000 to have major engine work done - engine valve stem seals and while there, the dealer indicated that I needed to get the transmission sleeve replaced because it was leaking - I authorized that work as well 2. Kept getting an intermittent "transmission fault" message. Dealer indicated that if the fault did not show again after restarting vehicle, it was an electrical fault with a module in the steering column - this was also resolved after transmission failed while I was in Washington D.C. I had to leave the car there with BMW of Alexandria while it was fixed - $8000 and after driving the vehicle back 400+ miles, I am experiencing the following: - As I slow down when approaching a light, car will suddenly accelerate like I have been hit from behind -Sometimes, the car shuts down (engine stalls) while driving, as I am braking to come to a stop and of course, power steering freezes up, so I have to try and quickly restart -Dynamic Drive Control failure message pops up when turning This is after I paid the $8000 to have the car repaired after being led down the garden path by the dealer in Ohio. This really is not the ultimate driving machine, especially when the dealers seem to be out to rob owners blind. Has anyone else experienced these types of problems with their 7s? I have owned BMWs for the past 15 years and have had similar problems with 2 of the 5 BMWs I have owned. It seems that obsolescence is now built into the ownership experience and kicks in right after the vehicle is out of warranty. I have contacted my lawyer but am also waiting to see what BMW's response to this is. Last edited by Moneypit750li; 02-02-2013 at 06:52 AM. Reason: Typo/spelling error |

For that dynamic drive error, check the angle link from the sensor to the lower control arm (my car right / passenger side), i got that error a few times while turning fast turned out that little link seized and snapped. Replaced and viola no more dynamic drive disabled.
Other possibilities: Sensor itself (front or rear) Pressure sensor Low fluid Module Sway bar itself Much more but not common.. Search and youll see alot of different scenarios try to find which is the most similar or go get the lube and head back to the dealer (Ps search around and youll come to realize that many have problems in the higher mile range, these cars arent built to last)

I am now at 131K. Unable to drive the car (Thanks to BMW of Alexandria) since it shuts down while driving, until they come up with a solution on how they may rectify this.

My 07 750i was getting dynamic drive faults intermittently after making a large left or right turn. Turned out to be the steering angle sensor assembly under the steering wheel. Had it replaced and no issues since but like everything else on this model repairs were expensive luckily mine failed during my last 3 weeks of CPO warranty so it was covered.
Sorry to hear you've had so much trouble, that's absolutely pathetic that you had to pay out of pocket to get repairs fixed that were identified while you were still under warranty. It sounds like BMW needs to step up and do whats right and cover the costs of the oil consumption problem. Good luck! |

Ltmax - thanks for your empathy. It has been an extremely frustrating experience. BMW dealers seem to have been trained to deflect client problems until out of warranty. The fact that this is consistent no matter which dealer you go to, indicates that BMW condones this practice.
I am sticking with this until they take appropriate action and will be sure to continue to bring this to the attention of appropriate parties eg NHTSA, press and every related agency that would potentially have an interest in consumer safety. |

I hate MAG....they gave me that same run around while my 5 series was still under warranty and then as soon as it was up, BOOM, the rape game with no lube began. I take my 7 to Kelly and they aren't much better but they are better than MAG. Good luck to you and I hope everything works out in your favor!
