Key Fob
Hey everyone!
I have purchased my first BMW and now I understand why people pay more for certain cars. I really enjoy driving my 98 BMW 540i. The owner did not have a working key fob. I replaced the battery and tried to reinitiate with the help of your post. However, it did not work. My red light on the key fob never comes on? I can use the valet key or this key fob manually. I live in the South and this is really stopping me from opening the door for my girlfriend. I need some help. Should I purchase a key for the circuit board? Place the circuit board in my key with the CHIP that is very important and I would have my fix? Thanks for the help!

I recently had the same issue. Buy a used remote from ebay and install it to your current key. Be carefull not to lose the EWS chip when you got the key open. I found mine quite cheap ($14 shipped).

I just received my key I purchased off Ebay. I am thinking they sent me a fob with a dead battery. I had a battery, but not 100% that it is new. Tomorrow I will purchase a new battery and go from there.
Does your red light glow or blink on your remote?

Ed, thank you. I have another question. Is the red light signaling that the key fob is communicating with the car or does it signal just when the button is pressed. In other words, do you have to be near the car for the red light to blink? Sorry for all the questions, but the key has me annoyed.
