Musty smell from air vents
2001 325 Ci.
When I first start the motor a musty smell comes from the air vents. I bought a spray for this from BavAuto. The instructions say to spray it into the air intake vent and it will recirculate in the condensor and kill the fungus build-up. Where is the air intake? Perhaps the cabin air filter section under the hood near the windshield? Any fear of wetting electrical circuits? Last edited by jimduke; 02-02-2013 at 10:03 AM. Reason: Addition |

Which product did you buy? Most of these products, such as Einszett Klima-Cleaner, are intended to be sprayed deep into the center vent via a long tube. The idea is to deliver the foam to the A/C evaporator housing, which is where the stink originates.
After the treatment is complete, try shutting off the A/C and running fresh outside air through the vents for a few minutes before you reach your destination. Doing so helps to dry out the system and reduce the growth of the stinky microorganisms.
