I drove all the Cayennes variants before picking up an X5M. I wanted to like the Cayenne better since there isn't Porsche under our roof since the 997 TT departed - but the X5M provides more giggles per $ than the P cars.
I personally don't like the M's Sport transmission settings for anything but pure hooliganism, but C&D is right about the slightly too harsh ride. With non-runflat winter rubber all the harshness went away so I'm hopeful a good set of non-runflat summer tires will dial it in just right.

Porsche already fixed this issue. Called the Cayenne Turbo S.
![]() But in reality, I'd pick a Turbo over an X5M any day of the week.

first generation cayenne is just ugly in every model... the interior is worse than the exterior. i tried really hard to like it, it rides very well, packs a punch but i just cant get over the interior... things were revised very well for the 2011+ models but still not enough to consider it as a viable option.

My understanding is that the S only shaves 0.1 seconds off the 0-60.
So still slower than X5M by a lot. |

I drove a 12 Cayanne "new body style" twin turbo up the coast for a bit and it was a blast to drive
Hunkered down in The seat nice and low. Felt like a sports car to me. Was pretty darn fast. Cockpit felt like an airplane I was impressed w it overall. Felt less truck like than the M for me. Which was cool! The M's transmission felt to rough for me Like a muscle car Just my 2 cents Rob

I felt the x5M was the best of the three German choices. I test drove all 3 and liked the x5M the most. Voted with my wallet and picked one up last month.

I think they hit the nail on the head. Even the new GLK (MB's entry level Crossover/SUV) has had some major revisions for 2013... MB in general has definitely improved majority of their line-up, maybe even all... The new E63 wagon specs are unreal. A family hauler wagon that does 0-60 in 3.4 secs? pretty impressive. Grocery getter that can get you to and from the grocery store in-between commercial breaks and in style.

Porsche is going to last a lot longer and be cheaper.
Nobody would brave owning a x5m out of warranty.that and in 5 years its worth 15 grand. |

The CT and GL are not comparable. GL is heavy and long... weight wise 5700+ lbs. it compares to the RR Supercharged (pre 2013). The CT handles more like a sports car. The new GL is very nice inside, especially Designo version...We have a 2011 ML and it puts it to shame!

The Porsche is a much better build suv than the x5m. but is it fast than x5m NO, is it better than x5m YES. Is it worth it's price tag? depends.
Porsche has more options, more exclussive options, the options can be more than a X5m. check out the PDCC, PCTV, Burmester, PCCB etc... it's like comparing a Nissan GTR and a Lamborghini, GTR is faster, more horsepower, might even corners better, it's a GREAT buy for that price, but if I can afford a lamborghini, it's gotta be the yellow bull. |
