Car off--but loud static through speakers

Ok, I know this can't be good....Started the car and instantly heard a low whine through the radio speakers. Drove a short distance, and the whine increased along with the RPMs. Pulled over after about five minutes of driving, shut the car off, and...got about ten seconds of loud, sustained static through the speakers.

The only service light I'm getting is for brake fluid and microfilter. Any thoughts?

Could be a problem with the Amp. The Verts sometimes get water down in that area from the drain hoses being clogged. Or something like that.

I would also guess it's the amp (located in the trunk on drivers side). You will not get any codes when the amp dies.

You can buy a refurb or an amp off eBay. Some guys also offer a rebuild service since this is such a common problem with amps in all BMW models. You can use the Logic 7 amps from the 5 series and 7 series - they are all interchangeable.

Thanks guys. Very much appreciate the insight. Yorgi, I just sent you a PM, but if you see this first, I'm looking for a DIY for the amp if you have it. Again, thanks for all of the help.

A new logic 7 amp from the dealer goes for about $1,200. On eBay they typically go for $600. You can get them fixed/refurbed for $150 to $300.

Here is a thread on the logic 7 amp with links to a few amp repair shops.

Here is DIY thread to remove the amp from the 7 series forum which is very close to what you need to do for the 6er.
Another thread on the 7 series forum with a few repair shops and even a link for a kit to fix the amp yourself if you are up to it. These are the DIY instructions for repairing the amp.

I had the same issue. I took the amp out and placed in a warm cupboard for 48 hours to get rid of the moisture. Refitted and all working fine !
As a tip...surround amp with silicon bags to reduce moisture but not over two vent fan holes on amp

This is a good idea - cheap insurance. I think I'll stick a sheet of stiff plastic on top of my amp next time I have my trunk apart.
