Maybe not too bad...

The quest for bar sizes, at least for me, is to simulate what the factory did for the F10 M5 platform. That route, at least, has some engineering in it. Notwithstanding the added benefits of the M5's different shocks, springs, and maybe link geometry, the use of M5 sized bars might, in themselves, deliver much flatter handling that our F10 so sorely lack (unless you already have ARS, DDC, and lowered springs).

Yes, a rear bar only install might provoke some surprises but perhaps not on the level you experienced on on 240Z. Our F10 from the factory have dialed in pronounced understeer and so much float and sway. I would be surprised if one chose the 16mm rear bar for a 535i and even the 18mm rear bar for the front heavy 550i that the infamous 930 oversteer situation would occur.

But, still a good point to consider when doing rear bar only. But to remove all doubt, at least for me , balancing the sway bar upgrade with a front and rear at the same time is the way to go.

My question on what the diameter of the front bar compared to the M5 front bar is just curiosity...how much did the BMW engineers increase the bar set, front and rear, over a non-M5. Just curious.

The rear turned my Z into a 930 Turbo clone. Worst TTO I have EVER experienced, even during my subsequent ling tenure as a PCA driving instructor. Thank God the pavement was dry that day, and I survived. My underwear did not.

BTW a lot of folks just seem to be focusing on the thickness of the bars. That is not the only important criteria. E.g. are the various bars solid or tubular? A tubular 14mm will likely be stiffer than a solid 18mm. Get all your facts straight before you start burning through shop time. Or worse, guard rails.

I don't since I haven't found anywhere that lists what my stock front bar is or the M5 one. I do know that visually you can tell right away the M5 bar is thicker for sure. My mechanic said the same thing once he looked at it.

The diameter should be listed right on the yellow bar code sticker stuck on the center of the bar. It'll be a number with a slashed O (symbol for diameter) following it. You'll see it on your old bar if you kept it.
Its too late now but when you were doing the install it would have been easy to read the number off the M5 bar before the belly pan was re-fastened. My guess is that the front bar is increased the same amount the rear bar is...4mm (from 14 to 18mm).
I look for the info when I do my bars. In the meantime, just curious.
Thanks the same

I'm in for the M5 front/? rear sway bar combo once we confirm the rears.

I'll also be in for the ACS if we can get a groupbuy together.

Here is the ACS website to look-up the parts number based on car models: RWD/ AWD

I am having look into the M5 front sway bar.
Best I was able to find so far is $254 shipped - no taxes except MD from someone here in the US. Need 10 buyers to trigger that price.

There is definitely enough people interested in the ACS springs for a group buy. Are we sure that a group buy won't work for this item?

We can finazlize the group buy on the sways once we figure out all that info. I have a feeling the sway group buy will take a lot more time to get in place.

ACS Group Buy:

1. BigDeep1
2. CyclePimps
3. Rico
4. Gre8tW8LL
5. douggie
6. V12
7. Supercomputer

The distributors I have been talking to explained there isn't enough margin on the ACS springs for the F10 to cut-in a group-buy.
I am sure someone could work for a $20-30 profit if they wanted to, but no one can be bothered for the time/ logistics work involved.
I would say for the springs, we would be better off ordering individually.

We would also need at least 10 buyers anyway.

A group-buy for the sway bars is possible however. There are prob. 10 buyers on this thread and a discount can be extended to us.
I also created a group-buy thread for the OEM BMW White Lines Tail Lights 1-2 weeks ago.

The front is thicker. I believe the front sway bar on my 528i is 24mm where the rear is 14mm.

Thanks! Nice to know.
My guess is the front M5 bar will be 28mm, a 4 mm increase. That's plausible considering the rear M5 bar spec is 18mm, a 4mm upgrade from our stock rear bars.
We'll see...It'll be what it'l be but I was just curious.

Without ARS, then YES

If you do not have Active Roll Stabilization, which for 2012 was part of the DHP (Dynamic Handling Package), then your car, like mine, have the one piece solid sway bar front and rear, which IS replaceable by the M5 front (one piece) sway bar upgrade and possibly (soon to be confirmed) the F07 (GT) rear sway bar.
This whole sway bar upgrade quest is for us F10 owners who did not get the excellent ARS option and now wish we had more roll control.
BTW...if you're not sure if you have ARS, look under the rear of the car. If the sway bar looks one piece, then you don't. If it looks like two pieces, with a pneumatic control housing separating the rear bar into two halves, then you do. And lucky you because by design, ARS would negate the need for bigger sway bars anyway.

I checked my 2013 M5 rear bar which is 18mm, so F10 5xx can use front M5 bar + GT rear bar, so how about M5 springs? can they use M5 springs and stock shocks? then this will be 95% M5?

Well, maybe not 95%...

If it were only that easy...I'm not sure if the M5 springs/shocks are a retro bolt on but even if it were, I understand that the M5 gets specific electronic tuning (via the DDC) not to mention changes to the link geometry, steering calibration, specific tire/wheel combinations, all tying everything together so it handles like a, well, "ultimate driving machine".

So for me, if I could achieve HALF of the M5 cornering ability with just spring/sways upgrades (already have DDC) in my floating non-M, I'd be a happy camper.

Yep, just like mine...14mm rear. Can't wait to find out if the F07 bar upgrade fits.

I just ordered the front M5 front anti sway bar from Tischer BMW & will try it out, first, without upgrading the rear sway bar, awaiting confirmation of rear's fit & review by fellow forum members. I am not going with modding the springs or shocks, as I like the basic ride on our local lousy streets & I don't think I want the car lowered any. I will report my impressions going forward.
