Navi update on my 2009 3.28xi

Hello all!

I have a question regarding navi update. I have a 2009 (04/2009) (e90) 3.28xi with iDrive and Navi but with old maps. Is there any way to update them w/o a dealer? If so, can you direct me to some info on how to?

I have the version snapshot attached

I found what I needed to do the update here: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...igation+update

The direct link to the torrent file is in post #58 of the thread as

Attached Files
BMW_CIC_NAVIGATION_NORTH_AMERICA_2013.torrent.txt (217.6 KB, 27 views)

Download file to USB Stick.
Insert USB stick into port in glovebox.
If car recognizes file to upgrade maps, you are good to go.
Get FSC code for your car(e-mail address for Sergej can be found in the thread on e90post)
Enter activation code.
Takes 40-45 minutes to load up maps and reboot system.

I was able to update my wife's, 2009 E93 335i w/ 1-31-09 build, my 2009 750Li w/ 4-28-09 build and also my friend's 2010 E64 650i w/ 6-25-2010 build date.

Good luck.

Some links to pics of iDrive screen during the above process are below.

Awesome! I got the file necessary for the update, I've reached out for the FSC code and waiting for my USB drive to come in from Amazon Can I just toss all the files into a single 64GB USB drive? Basically files will be the following in the root of the drive:
- config.nfm
- pkgdb

Can't be over 32GB in size because Windows won't format anything larger in FAT32. 64GB drives and up are formatted in exFAT and it must be in FAT32 or it won't work.

I have those same 2009 maps... Did you find any new features? I've seen some people mention new 3D buildings in cities they never had before? Or maybe this when exiting a road?

The updated poi's are noticeable to me.
As for 3d buildings, I don't know.
As for the off ramp in split screen, in 2009 maps, that feature was there.

Either way, for a little effort and little $$, why not update your navigation?

I am trying to get BMW to update my maps for me for free over this weekend, I'll let you know how that goes. Does anyone know if I can update my iDrive to that of the one that is installed in 2013 models? I am in a rental 2013 BMW and i love the UI changes to the iDrive.

I was able to get BMW to give me an update for free by notifying them of some strange behaviors in my Navigation (missing POIs, missing house addresses, lagging, etc) and they told me over the phone just now that it's ready for pick up. They said they "updated the cic option". Until I get my car later this evening, I am left guessing what that means. Does this mean the Navi has been updated? iDrive firmware updated? Both? Can anyone provide some insight on this?

Thanks!

my guess they did the update that would allow you from now on to buy their USB sticks. Your maps will still be 2009, but everything else needed to get updates and future updates will be ready to go.

Looks like you were right, no maps update I just got it back and still has the stinking old maps installed.

This is what it says on the paperwork:

"Programm/Update CIC Option 609 With Latest Software Per SIB 65 05 09. Programmed and Coded including CAS."

You eliminated a big chunk of costs though with that update. I think now you've only got like a $200 bill for the USB drive. Or I believe you can DL the maps now and stick them on your own drive.

Awesome! how much do you think it would've cost to do what they did? Also, should I see any differences in the iDrive with this update?

I already have the 2013 Maps downloaded in case they didnt update so I'll be doing that. Already in contact with the right person for FSC code too

I think it needs to be a 32gb usb. and it should recognize it now with that software you got.

I bought a Sandisk 32gb cruzer on eBay for $18. I did the download and Sergei email thing. The one thing to remember is make sure you put the files in the root directory of the usb. I didn't the 1st time and it didn't work. Reformatted the usb just to make sure no data was on it, redownloaded data, and boom it worked! Took about 45 minutes to download from the stick and it runs flawlessly.

I have a fairly early build, 01/09 e90 with iDrive. Also its a pretty good idea to do the vin check to see if your software is up to date. I read in other forums people havjng trouble with their glovebox usb. The current software should remedy that.

as far as the exit signs, etc. You need to enable split screen. Once you do, there is a submenu with split screen options. Exit ramp data is one of them..

Good Luck and go for it!

It will be on the left side of you glove box. You have to lay down a bit to see it actually. I didn't find it in mine when I looked for it the first time.

Anyways, where are you downloading the software? The link provided above isn't working, can some one post some working links.

Thanks!
