Question Door closes loud!

It could be just me, but it really sounds like my doors close loud. Like, it almost sounds like there's a hint of metal hitting metal loud. Door sounds very heavy.

It's a 2004 525i. Granted it could just be that it's a 2004, vice my wifes 2010 Altima that sounds like the door closes onto a cloud. Is this the door seals or is it something with the door catch/latch (where metal actually hits metal)? The clicking from the latch catching is loud I suppose.....

I hope I'm not sounding like an idiot.

In my opinion BMW had this option "soft closing doors", which I think my car has it, maybe your doesn't that's why.

Yeah bmw usually sound louder than most cars, at least to me, as a matter of fact my X is louder than my 5.
But from what you describe the metal to metal sound you mention Maybe something is loose?

The 'hook' on the door jamb may be contacting the latch as the door is closed. As you close the door, watch the latch carefully. You can loosen the screws on the hook and adjust (up or down) the hook and see if it helps.

Okay, so i took a look at the door jam, and the hook isn't hitting. Through my inspection, I noticed that the mechanism inside the door that actually swivels back and forth when the hook impacts itactually hits another metal piece below it, locking it in one of it's two positions. THAT piece is what is causing the "metal on metal" loud sound. There really wasn't much I could do about it without taking the door apart to attempt to silence the sound a little bit, so all I could do really was re-greese the mechanism. It sounds ever so slightly quieter, but still loud IMO. Oh well...

That's fine. I can probably live with it. i just figured there would be an easy fix. I have a few other things on this car I probably need to focus my attention to instead anyways...
