same info from my CA

I received the same info from my salesperson.

I see three possibilities:
1. The info is wrong and the LCI will happen with MY15 SOP in April 2014
2. The info is correct and my CA has incorrect or imperfect information.
3. The changes in June 2013 are for non-USA markets (i.e., my CA and the BMWBlog rumor are both correct)

I'm calling my CA tomorrow to put my order on hold until this is straightened out. Personally I do not care about bumper shape or lighting configurations, but I specifically ordered a MY 14 to get the new Nav system.

BMW does not issue secret LCI revisions to their vehicles that they suddenly spring on everyone at the LCI SOP. They are announced in advance. The 2014 F10 LCI starts production on July 1, 2013. By now they have announced changes and photos of the revised front end have been released through back channels by BMW just to keep the interest up among the BMW faithful. You have none of that with the 2014 X3 starting production in 11 days. I wish that my 2014 X3 on order with production starting on April 1 would magically become the LCI but it will not. BMW rolls out the LCI around the world at the same time. The X3 LCI will happen with MY15 SOP in April 2014. You can bank on that.

This makes sense when explained this way. Otherwise, why hasent there been any official press releases and such about the changes that would start being produced in under two weeks.

I wonder if the new nav will start with 2014 or 2015 ? Same as the color heads up display?

The new iDrive software, new hardware, new processors, new graphics chips, new higher resolution screen, new navigation system and software all will be part the 2014 X3's starting production April 1. The new HUD dispaly will likely be part of the 2014 upgrades.

I just received an email from a fellow Bimmerfester that the above has changed and now the technology upgrade will not be available until SOP July 2013. If true that is a crock of sh1t. I am looking further into this.

Maybe SOP July 2013 X3's will be the facelift LCI. That is pure conjecture.

I am very interested to hear what you find out. I ordered a 2014 last week specifically for the new technology and I don't want to get an early 2014 if it doesn't have those upgrades.

I was thinking about this a bit more and it really doesn't make sense to launch the MY 2014 in April 2013 and then release an LCI in July 2013.

So do you think they would just delay the MY2014 SOP from 4/13 to 7/13 and introduce the LCI and/or new tech features then?

If so they could let pre-order customers know of the delay and ask if they want to wait or get a 2013 model instead.

Assuming the LCI release in July 2013 is confirmed I will certainly wait for it, even if the technology comes in April, assuming of course I can cancel/postpone my pre-order!

According to internal BMW Documents MY 2014 has SOP April 2013 and runs through March 2015. MY 2015 has an SOP of April 2014. My conjecture would be MY 2015 is the LCI. My local dealer Sales Manager is looking into when the iDrive and Nav will be upgraded on the X3.

I just heard back from local sales manager after he spoke with BMW NA. The SOP April 2014 X3 will get the new iDrive and Nav hardware and software upgrade. Production will run with little or no changes until March 2014. The implication is that the LCI will happen with SOP April 2014 as a 2015 MY.

Wow... So there goes the general consensus that the 2014 MY would have the changes to the hardware. I might just have to wait a bit longer and step it up to the new X5 to get the newer tech.
If the wife and I were car hoppers that get a new vehicle every 3 years I wouldn't care, but this purchase will be with us for quite a while. I rater either wait for the 2015, or just suck it up and pay a little more for the new F15 X5.

In the interest of keeping bimmerfest members fully informed and at the risk of continuing to confuse people...

pharding and I have been corresponding on this topic. I am the "fellow Bimmerfester" he refers to in his post #82, above. Our sales people agree on a couple of items and disagree on another.

Agreement: The X3 Life Cycle Impulse (LCI) will not occur until MY2015 which is currently scheduled to start production on 1 April 2014. Any body, trim, color, interior design, motor changes would be included as part of the LCI

Agreement: Tech changes (such as upgrade nav or upgraded iDrive) can and do occur in mid-model year for BMW models. For example, the BMW dealers have been officially notified in writing from BMW NA that the 3-series, xdrive cars (F30) that started production in March 2013 will now be called MY2014 cars and have a tech upgrade (exact content of tech upgrade not mentioned, but expected to be the new idrive and nav) in July 2013.

Disagreement:
  • pharding's sales people told him they corresponded with BMW NA and were told that the new Nav and iDrive will appear on X3 F25 cars starting on 1 April 2014 (SOP of the MY2014 cars). Based on that pharding kept his order for a new MY2014 X3 in the system.
  • My sales people told me they corresponded with BMW NA and were told there is no date decided yet as to when the X3 F25 will receive the new Nav and iDrive. Based on that I cancelled my MY2014 order.
I have sent the contact info for pharding's dealer to my dealer to see if I can get them to get their stories straight. I sent that this morning @ 7am MT - no reply yet.

Personally, I do not know who is right and have chosen not to risk receiving a car with the wrong equipment until I get solid confirmation from the dealer I am buying from what is on that car. I am not trying to say one dealer is better or worse or one is right or wrong. I am reporting that there are two stories out there about when the new Nav and iDrive will appear on X3 F25 vehicles and anyone who is ordering now at the beginning of MY2014 production should have their eyes open and get answers to their own satisfaction.

At the end of the day, I will buy a new X3. It will have the new Nav and iDrive. I just don't know when

I just came back from my dealer and he stated that as far as he is aware the MY2014 will get the new nav and iDrive from the beginning.

However, he also stated that if for some reason this is wrong or changes he will place my order on the lot and order me a new vehicle, so I kept my order in place, as this is pretty much no lose for me!

My dealer and BMW internal documents state that MY 14 SOP is April 1, 2013. BMW would never change that backwards at the last minute throwing off all of the orders and ordering guides for March 2013 production cars. Anyway we will know shortly because my X3 will be produced in the first week. Also I will have a VIN in the next week or so which will give the parts department the DNA of my X3.

Agreed: MY14 starts 1 April 2013

My dealer agree that MY14 starts 1 April 2014, too. My dealer just thinks that it will contain the current Nav and iDrive.

Anyhow, I am hoping that when my guy talks to your guy it will get straightened out.

As you said, we will see...and maybe I am just being overly cautious.

Guys,
Thanks for following up on this. I'm in the same boat as you guys with an order placed and hoping for the tech upgrade to happen with April production. I would like to know by when can one cancel the order? I have so far the production number only.

Thanks

This whole thing is extremely frustrating. I love BMW but how the hell can they not know what is going on 11 days before they start building a new MY.

I want the new technology and had put off ordering as long as I could. I currently have a 335 and my wife and I are having our first baby in May. I went with the X3 to keep the same great sportiness but have a more family friendly size. I have already worked out the trade in value of the 335 and just cant wait a little while longer if they do not start the MY 2014 with the new technology.

I just dont understand how BMW could start producing a new MY and then a month or two into it change a major component of the car. That will really sour my feeling for the car I am going to have for 5 -6 years. I understand the argument that at one point one just has to pull the trigger and buy, things will always be upgraded. But its bull sh*t to pull the trigger on the new MY and then still get burned by a couple weeks in the same MY.

They have previously announced that the 2014 SOP 4/13 will have the new Nav and iDrive (http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=716464) but I have not seen any announcement that this is delayed, so no news is good news, right?

That kind of depends on your dealer's policy. Talk to 'em.

With me, I am delaying my order. My dealer took the production slot he had used for my car and marked it as a car to be built for their inventory. He offered to allow the car to come in and if it did not have the new Nav and iDrive, to take it as an inventory car. However, he admitted they would change one or two small items on it if they ordered it for inventory, so I told 'em to take that production slot and change the order to better suit their needs.

Once the dust settles on this "is the new Nav & iDrive there or not there on 1 April 2013" silliness, I'll get them to put in an order for me again. I can afford to wait a month or two if necessary and I'm even prepared to wait until MY15 if need be.

I do know that when the order coding changes in the order system from "112" (order accepted) to "150" (order scheduled on the production line and parts allocated) that you cannot change the composition of the order any longer.

I completely agree with 'bsavage'.

About to make my 1st BMW purchase and we have to deal with this 'mickey mouse mess'!

Nine or so days until production of MY 14' is supposedly going to start and nothing on the BMW web site?

Perhaps a BMW was never meant to be for me....,

My dealer's sales manager was quite clear. He called BMW. I am relying on my sales manager. They have taken great care of me and their information has been accurate in the past. I trust them that it will all work out. However if my MY 14 X3 does not have the New iDrive and Nav I will not take delivery and I will not hand over the check. BMW has always been a stand up company. I am sure that they will ultimately do the right thing by each of us.
