USB Hub in Console?

I am curious if anyone has successfully installed a mini USB in the console. I currently have my ipod connected to the console USB port and charge my iphone from a charger plugged into the rear power outlet. My concern is that since that power outlet doesn't turn off the charger is drawing current even when parked and not connected to my iphone as indicated by the LED being lit. A solution might be to charge the iphone through a USB hub. I just don't know if the car will get "confused."

Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks!

12V outlets are turned off when car goes to "sleep".

Thanks about the sleep insight. These cars are so loaded with electronics I am paranoid about battery drain. Drove me crazy on my 2010 535i.

Even the 12V "constant" power cable to the OEM amp also turns off when the car goes to "sleep".
