I'll be watching the Semi-Super Bowl in High Def. I do it the hard way, I just stream and read the binary code. It's a lot cheaper.
BTW I hear the Patriots are 12 point favorites. Oh wait, the best team didn't make it this year? Crud.

I suppose it depends on how you define "01110011 01101110 01101111 01110111"

My error. Then perhaps he is suffering from tropical fever. Way worse than cabin fever.

BTW: Speaking of tropical fever, how many weeks till delivery date?

One would hope so again, but like the last story the high temp over the past 3 weeks has only been 22 degrees. Please try again Kat....

On the other note I am not sure, afraid to ask....

They had a chance too this year with the Giants not making the play-offs...

Perhaps playing in the powder-puff AFC East is not the best preparation for the play-offs????

The typical sequence:
  • "These young'uns today don't even remember when PCs only had floppies, and no hard disk."
  • "Yeah, well my first computer was a TI99/4A that only had a cassette tape."
  • "Pshaw. Mine was a CPM machine with 8" floppies."
  • "Yeah? So what? I remember having to load the OS from paper tape after toggling in the bootstrap loader on the front panel using zeros and ones."
  • "You had ones??"

But, seriously, I do remember a conversation in the mid-80s in grad school when I stated that when I was in high school, I had had to load the OS from paper (actually mylar) tape after toggling in the bootstrap loader. Of the 5 other CompSci grad students in the conversation, all of them had neither heard of nor seen paper tape.

OK - if we want to stroll down memory lane...
Do you remember taping over the mistakes in your punched cards with Scotch tape? And whether it worked or not depended on the card reader?
What about 50 bps data lines?
And then there are real paper tapes...

If you want to see old school, go to DSX's shop. His OBDII reader is a wet finger stuck into the interface slot!

I learned to program in the late-60s on a Model 33 ASR (affectionaly, a "bit banger"). Many bad memories of a paper tape developing a wrinkle or nick that would turn into a tear as it went through the reader.

There are some sounds you'll never forget.

Geezerfest?

Ah yes, nothing like solid head mechanical printers and punch cards to bring out all the old timers. Zooks, how can you remember that stuff, I didn't think you were born until after the TRS 80.
When punchcards were the input method of choice (or necessity?) I recall accidentally dumping the chad container all over a comptometer keyboard...
In college, SD and Pearson r statistical calculations would take all day, and physics equations even longer. Now we can knock them off as fast as we can enter the data. Kids today have it so easy.
You want to really amaze yourself, consider that marvels like the Brooklyn Bridge and the moon landings were accomplished using slide rules and longhand calculations.
