FYI on smog checks
Found out the hard way today that if you disconnect the battery (had my car super detailed, they disconnected the battery when they did it) or do an all clear of your car of diagnostic codes your car wont pass the smog check here in California...
Only because it erases the memory of the Cat system and therefore with the new procedures in place now it will fail the check. The fault will read something to the affect that the cat system was or needs recycled. They don't dyno or put the rods up your tail pipe anymore. They just hook up to the OBD port.
The fix is, you will have to drive your car for about 10 to 15 miles to get enough data for the smog computer to read it out and make a finding.
I went to a Smog Check place today other then the one I usually go to and failed to the tune of 59 dollars... The guy was clueless and did not give me any confidence in his abilities... Went to my regular guy and he filled me in and did the check for 39 dollars after he told me what to do.....
