ipod vis usb

Hello,
I searched for this but still not quite clear - is additional cable needed to connect ipod to the USB interface. And if so does it come with the car. My case is no navigation, no Assist/Enhanced option.

Yes it requires a cable. No it does not come with the car. Just use your standard apple usb docking cable.

I have a 1st gen Nano and I needed the special BMW Y cable:

I called my dealer and the sales guy was able to get one for me at no cost.

I guess that's the question - does it work with the regular apple cable or it needs the "Y" one.
Looks like I will know for sure only once it gets here. I guess that's what I get for being cheap and not getting any of the additional electronics stuff!

I think it depends on what generation you ipod/iphone is. I would be sure to bring your whatever with you when you go to pick it up and ask the sales guy/gal to hook it up. If it doesn't work, act dumb -- like you thought it should work -- and see if they'll throw it in. My Wife's mini has the same thing, but Mini gave us the cable at pick up.

For all my cable needs I go to one place: www.monoprice.com. Cables are incredibly inexpensive and are good quality. For those of you that think brands like Monster or the ones BMW sells make audio or video sound or look better- you have a good imagination.

Hopefully your connection will be as easy as mine. My iPod 3G connects with the USB cable that came with it. I can navigate albums, artists, etc., and album art is even displayed on the Nav screen.

My 2011 28i does the same thing. I only discovered this a couple of weeks ago. I use the USB cable that came with my iPhone 4S plug it into the USB port in the arm rest and use the mode button on the radio to start playing music or podcast. I was really surprised when the album art appeared to the navigation screen. This recharges the phone too. Pretty neat.

Just to update here:
The car came with the Y cable, I guess it is included be default nowadays. My wife's ancient ipod works fine with it.
