Has any one done there own oil change BMW 323I

I was just wondering if anyone has done there own oil change rather than doing it at a shop such as BMW. I would like to save money and not spend 150 plus tax if it easy to do. I know that they uses full synthetic BMW brand. is that something we can buy in a large jug.

I did mine on my 2007 335I, just a jack to get under the car, but I did purchase the oil and filter from BMW, 70 bucks for 7 quarts and a filter, bought a strap wrench to get the plastic filter housing off
other than that it was easy

will i need to purchase a strap wrench to get the plastic filter housing off, or is my model different in anyway 2008 323i

I would think, not 100 percent but if you have the straight 6, the oil filter cap is in the front of the engine on top and has the same filter cap, I am sure BMW makes a special tool but the strap wrench will work plus its a multi function tool not just an oil filter removal tool , just pop the hood and check the filter housing

Look for an indy shop and get it done for $100. I think for the extra $30 it may be worth your time/effort. Especially since you have to dump the oil in a legal and responsible way.

It is not a difficult process. On my 2006 330xi there is a plastic cover running along the bottom of the car. You unscrew one portion of it (like a door) and this gives you access to the oil pan cover. You unscrew that to drain the oil. Then replace the filter. It's really no different than any other car.

If this helps, I just did my 2012 E90 and it was a breeze. I purchased filter cap wrench at pep boys for $3. The cap easily came off. Make sure you note the white dot location, and re-tighten to the same position. It won't go any further. Jacking up the car was the most labor intensive component. I jacked up all 4 sides. If you plan to do this, I recommend you place wood ontop of the jacks to protect the car. The oil drain plug was 17mm. The E90 has an electronic dip stick, so I ended up putting in 6 quarts even. Don't overfill. Oil(5W-30 synthetic) was $32, BMW filter(from dealer)$13. The filter comes with 2 O-rings (1 large; 1 small)which need to be replaced on the filter housing. The whole process was very easy. I am looking forward to the transmission.

Thanks every one for the advice, for the most part it seem easy enough to do on my own. Ill be saving tones of money now , rather that 200 an oil change gets expensive.
